"I have been wanting a pool in my backyard for years now, while I was searching for contractors online, I found Bayside Builders online and decided to call them up for an estimate on building my dream pool in my backyard. They came over and explained everything to me on how they were going to design my pool, what it would cost, and what the entire process was like.I was so impressed with the attention to detail that they took for this project because I never knew it would be so complicated. It looks great now though and more importantly, it gets used often by my family & friends! I highly recommend Bayside Builders for any home renovation project you may have-they are second to none."

"The greatest roofing company I,ve ever encountered is Northwest Builders and Renovation. Moshe, with whom I collaborated to effectively complete my roof replacement project. The process proceeded without a hitch from the first step to the last completion of the work. In addition to what the neighbors were saying about the works quality and professionalism, I wanted to add one more thing. Completely happy!"

"Skytech Builders made the process so easy! Jonathan and Leo both came in and showed me a bunch of different layouts and frames for kitchen cabinets. I had to redo my bathroom cabinets as well. We ended up talking for four hours about my current vision and what I want in my kitchen. They showed me many projects they did and a lot of options, colors, and 3d designs of how everything will look at the end. They made that vision come to life a couple of months later. I couldn't be happier with the results and how it all turned out, the same as the primer design they showed me, they were so professional and most importantly clean!! Jonathan and Leo took control and made sure everything was perfect. I appreciate Skytech Builders for coming in and handling everything in a professional way."

"He was the only person who proposed fixing the fence instead of replacing the whole sections. They were able to rebuild it almost entirely with the existing redwood and adding a few boards. Blends in nicely with the rest of the fence. Way cheaper than replacing the whole sections."

"It was a challenging time to undertake this project between COVID, engineering errors (not the builder), labor shortages, and the price of lumber. I would not say it was easy, but the end result is a very well built, comfortable, attractive, and energy efficient living space. I learned a lot from this project and provided feedback to the contractor about what I didn't know about the process when we began and what others would benefit from. One key item is a clear list of what the "finishing" materials are and a schedule indicating when these materials are needed. I recommend that anyone working on a building project of this intensity insist upon a detailed list as part of the contract and in advance of the work beginning. Since our work was done, this contractor has hired two additional people to focus on those types of needs. The people performing the labor were always polite, friendly and respectful of masking and social distancing. We felt comfortable with them around our home. One thing that could have been better is more orderly disposal of materials and separation of recyclable and non-recyclable items."

"We just completed our first ever bathroom remodel, courtesy of Brother & Brother, and we couldnâ t be happier with the results. From first contact, we were impressed with the companyâ s professionalism and communication. We loved that no one tried to do a â hard sellâ (this happened with multiple other contractors), and they were willing to work within our budget. Everyone we spoke with, from our first contact Dor, to our project manager Eli, his assistant project manager Nevo, and our crew of Alex and Edwin, was courteous, respectful, and kind. The project was started and completed within the time range we agreed on (4-5 weeks), which was much appreciated as we were in a rush to finish the remodel before our furniture shipment arrived from overseas. We also appreciated that the price we were quoted was what we paid in the end - there were no hidden fees or change orders, despite a couple unexpected hurdles. Our crew was fantastic. Alex and Edwin (who are actual brothers!) were super detail-oriented and worked hard to make our vision a reality. I was always impressed by how well they cleaned up their workspace at the end of each day, which is especially nice considering we have two small children running around. They donâ t speak a ton of English, but this was not a problem as I am conversational in Spanish and they got into a good rhythm of checking in and making sure things were progressing as I wanted. I got the sense that they truly just wanted me to be happy, and thatâ s always a good feeling as a homeowner. Their tile and finish work, in particular, is fantastic. Everyone who has seen the bathroom comments on what a great job they did. Iâ d say the one hurdle was that we were told the soffit above our shower would be difficult to fully remove due to some plumbing above the area, and that turned out not to be the case. Thankfully I thought to ask the inspector at our first inspection about it, and he confirmed that it was a simple framing issue and the pipes would not need to be touched. Despite the fact that Eli was out of the country at the time, he was very responsive and we were able to move forward on fully removing the soffit. Our assistant project manager Nevo was also helpful while Eli was gone; he helped find us a new door at a very reasonable price online and he also coordinated our shower door install, which looks fantastic. All in all, we are very happy with the experience and are in love with our new bathroom. Thank you, Brother & Brother! We would definitely hire them again in the future."

FAQs for carpentry projects in Union City, CA

The average cost to hire a woodworker for a project in your home is around $65 per hour, but hourly rates can range from $35 to $250 or more, depending on the experience and skill of the woodworker. Your total woodworking project cost will depend on the complexity of the work, the type of wood, the number of projects, and any other materials your project requires. You could hire a professional woodworker to create everything from a custom cabinet to ornate, unique staircases.

Generally, general contractors charge between $50 and $150 hourly, though not every contractor charges by the hour. If charging based on the project, you can expect a markup of 10% to 20% of the construction cost. You can expect to pay between $300 and $500 daily if charged by the day.

While city and state laws vary on general contractor licensing requirements, hiring an unlicensed general contractor could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines for your area.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

Every woodworker has different skills and experience, so we recommend asking the following questions when hiring a woodworker for your project:

  • How long have you been in the woodworking industry?

  • What experience do you have with my type of project?

  • Do you have customer references I can speak with?

  • How long do you expect my project to take?

  • What is my recourse if I have an issue with your work?

  • Do you charge hourly or per project?

  • Will you work on-site or in your own workshop?

  • Does your fee include the necessary post-job clean-up?

While they perform similar tasks, a carpenter is responsible for the woodworking that goes into construction—like framing, installing sheathing, and hanging kitchen cabinets—while a woodworker tackles more intricate and custom projects—like building custom furniture and installing wainscoting. Based on these definitions, most woodworkers can tackle the jobs of a carpenter, but you should always ask about your specific project when choosing a woodworker to ensure they have the necessary skills to tackle the job.
