Small jobs welcome

"What a FABOULOUS experience! Jonathan the owner, was quick to respond and visited the site the first day we spoke to review the project and prepare the quote. The job was interior painting of a 2-story house with high (20â ceilings) and the installation of a built-in floor to ceiling bookcase. Jonathan was not just responsive and honest, but he always went the extra mile. He was quick to size up the project and provide recommendations on how to be cost effective without sacrificing the look of the finished project. They may not be the cheapest but they were very competitive and did high quality work. The entire crew was wonderful to work with throughout the process. Every employee was proficient and professional which stems from Jonathan himself. Jonathan was very accommodating, and very good at communicating. You will not find nicer or more conscientious people to work with. A special shout out to Brad who was the project leader. He and his crew were always in contact with the status of the project. There was nothing they couldnâ t do, including replacing all the hardware. They were professional, polite, neat, and very knowledgeable. We are thrilled with the results. We feel like we have a new house! We will definitely hire Cani Painting again."

"Just finished our kitchen and bathroom remodel with Ocean Seven Builders and happy we went with them. Ron helped us through the whole process and made it simple. He was always available when we had questions and gave honest advice when we were choosing materials. The kitchen looks open and bright now, and the bathroom finally feels updated instead of old and cramped. Solid work and good people."

"Joshua is great! I purchased the toilets at Home Depot and arranged for Joshua to pick them up. Well HD Lancaster location only had two of the HE toilets that I wanted, so the 3rd toilet was picked up in the HD Palmdale store. Joshua did all this with pleasure. He was on time, work was completed superbly and cleanup was on point. I will always call on Joshua for my Handyman needs..."

"We loved working with Repair and Remodel Experts. They were
professional, polite, accommodating and stayed on task. They met our
deadline and the work they did was fantastic. Being a church, we
appreciated their work ethic and the demeanor of their crew. We didn't
have to worry that we would have visitors who might hear inappropriate
behavior or language coming from the construction area (which was right
next to our current office space.

Interior Painting questions, answered by experts

If the lead paint is in a place that is not easily disturbed and is not flaking or deteriorating, you do not necessarily need to remove it. Lead is toxic when dust particles or flakes from peeling lead paint are ingested. If people are not in the area with the lead paint, it may be safe to leave it in place. You still may want to consider encapsulation with a paint formulated for covering lead-based paint, just for an added layer of protection.

Lead removal is crucial in older homes to eliminate risks of lead poisoning, which can severely affect health, particularly in children, by impacting development and cognitive functions.

Yes, many professionals use non-toxic removers and dust-free sanding techniques.

Yes, you can paint over old exterior paint, but success depends on the condition of the existing paint and proper surface preparation. If the previous coating is in good shape (not cracked, peeling, or flaky), you can paint over it with less prep work. However, for the most durable and professional-looking results, follow these key preparation steps:

  • Clean the Surface: Thoroughly clean the exterior to remove all dirt, grime, and mildew. A pressure washer can be very effective for this.

  • Scrape and Sand: If the old paint is peeling, cracked, or flaky, you must scrape off all loose paint. After scraping, sand the surface to create a smooth, even base for the new paint. Sanding is especially important for wood siding.

  • Apply Primer: Using a quality exterior primer is highly recommended. It ensures the new paint adheres properly, improves durability, and provides a uniform finish. If you are painting a lighter color over a dark one, a tinted primer will help cover the old color more effectively.

Some brands offer paint-and-primer-in-one products for convenience. Taking the time to prepare the surface properly will not only increase your home's curb appeal but also help protect your siding and extend its life.

Sandblasting is a common method for removing paint. It works great if the underlying material is tough. This is because you can then use more abrasive sandblast materials, making the paint removal process much faster and less expensive. If you plan on removing many layers of paint on smooth surfaces, you’ll need to be more careful about which materials you choose to use to sandblast.
