"We had excellent experience with Alpha Structural. Charlie Rosenkranz came to see the property and advice. He checked the structures all around and looked in the basement as far as possible beyond the ducts that were filling up the space and would require tunneling to get to some areas under the building. Communication was excellent. He's knowledgeable and experienced. We appreciated his professional no pressure approach and answering our questions. The front main duplex needed Seismic Retrofit; it wasn't bolted and had cripple walls. There were suspect areas in the foundations that would have to be tested when bolting, to see if the concrete is in good shape. After we agreed to their proposal have the work done we scheduled a range date. They had to submit to the city plans for a permit to do the work and wait for the permit to be issued. While doing the retrofit we found out that the foundation in the front corner was damaged and that the building has sunken and was not level at that corner. Charlie worked out the details and bid for the additional work of Partial Foundation Replacement, Posts/piers, and Jack Lift the corner to level it. He explained the details and what's involved to my satisfaction. Alpha obtained the permit for the work and proceeded. The work crew did excellent work. Jose Morales was the Project Supervisor. They completed the work at a good pace, including the delay for the additional work permit, without complications or complaints from the neighbors. The place was left clean. The work was approved in the inspection which they requested and scheduled with the city. The communication with everyone at the office was also very good. We're very pleased with the experience."

We got 4 companies to come and give us a quote.  Two of them were cheaper but they seemed as puzzled as we were about what to do and could not guarantee from future problems. The other company suggested rebuilding the entire deck and was way out of budget. From home repairs , automotive, and electronics, my trust in others doing the job correctly has been a major concern- hence DIY. Because of the difficulty, time and my age, I contacted GM Pacific Pro Construction to give me an estimate on a roofing project. I’d seen the quality of work as they completed my neighbors new roof. I met Gil, who arrived on time to review my project. I found Gil, friendly, easy to discuss needs with and, most importantly, I felt fully confident in trusting GM Pacific Pro Construction to do a quality job. The price was right for me, so without a second estimate , I accepted Gil’s bid for the job. The work team , Gil included, arrived on time to start the job. Everything needed had been ordered ahead , and had arrived the day before work started. The work TEAM was obviously experienced, worked efficiently , and in one day I had my roof project done to perfection. I had no clean-up, no added expenses, and no disruption to my day. "Cons:
1.  Originally scheduled for 8 am.  Office called the day before, said the scheduled contractor was out sick, was 9-9:30 ok.  I agreed, although it made the schedule tight, and I said so.  The contractor they sent didn't show up until 10:30.  I understand that it was probably a tight fit from their side, with one person out, but it made things hard from my side, since I work from home, and had a lot going by then, so couldn't really talk to the contractor.  In retrospect, I should have just cancelled and re-booked for another date.
2.  The shower head the contractor installed - he couldn't give me a product or model number.  It was a Moen for $75, and looked a lot like a model I could have bought for $25-30 on Amazon.  But without the product SKU, no way of knowing.  I was on the phone at work the entire time the service was performed, so couldn't really interact, and just said yes.  Still - a little irritated by lack of info here.
And the good - everything else
1.  The leak was fixed at a rate $100 lower than the plumber I usually call in. 
2.  The contractor was professional and courteous
3.  I'm no judge of quality here, but looks good.

"I have a lot of items that I store in the bathroom, and my bathroom that I had before the remodeling project had zero place for storing things, which meant that everything was either on the counter of the vanity or on the floor. It was a big cluttered mess. The bathroom I have now fixed all my storage issues: we put in new shelves and niches for all my cosmetics and shampoo bottles. And now I actually have space to move around! I have Tom and Lucas to thank for this. They did a great job not only with my master bathroom, but with the two others as well. I wanted a nice clean and white look with subway tiles. I know many people look down on subway tiles, so I was already expecting Tom and Lucas trying to talk me out of it. But they didn’t. They took my wishes to heart and executed them. Which was the case with all the decisions I made. If I was uncertain, they offered extremely helpful advice and suggestions, but they made sure that I was getting the bathroom that I wanted. I really enjoyed working with them and will hire them again if I can come up with another project for them to work on."
