"They delivered exactly as promised. Our original cabinets were solid but very outdated. After attempting, and failing, to refinish them ourselves we turned to cabinet refresh. The whole process took only 3 days and we ended up with what feels like brand new cabinets. Not only is the paint finish great, but they added some modern touches like new soft-close drawer boxes, self-close door hinges, and organizational pullouts. The workers showed up on time and were very efficient. Overall we were very happy with the results."

"I received 3 different bids for installing a large closet in our hallway. We liked Albert Goldin’s design the best and chose him. He was timely, and the closet is beautiful—pull out shelves, lovely wood. Very happy with the result."

"We did a whole kitchen remodel. David was very knowledgeable and recommended a wall removal which completely changed the look of our kitchen and opened it up. Everyone that worked on the kitchen was very professional and they stuck to their schedule. They were pretty quick getting us back in our kitchen and it turned our beautiful. I absolutely love my kitchen and I am so happy I chose CA Cabinets."

"Ulisses was professional, friendly and answered all my questions before the work started. I had old cabinets and he did a good job fixing it and touching them up. Despite the late afternoon start, he didn't rush it and stayed until he felt it was done right."

Closets questions, answered by experts

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.

The differences between a built-in closet and a walk-in aren’t that different from a built-in wardrobe and a walk-in closet. It’s fairly simple—a walk-in closet is a closet you can physically enter, stand in, and walk around in. A built-in (whether wardrobe or closet) is more akin to covered shelves installed into a recess in the wall. Another big difference is walk-in closets almost always have traditional full-size doors, while built-ins either have no doors or use sliding doors.

Plywood, MDF (medium-density fiberboard), and solid wood are all popular options for closet shelving. Plywood and solid wood are sturdy and ideal for extended shelves or heavy items. MDF is a budget-friendly choice for light to moderate storage, but it can sag under heavy weight if not adequately supported. Wire shelving is another alternative that allows airflow, making it especially useful in humid spaces such as laundry rooms or basements.

How many days it takes to remodel a closet will also depend on the scale of the project. Small changes like installing a prefab kit will eat up an afternoon and no more, while a total renovation could require several days to a week. If you’re planning for the latter, plan to secure other sleeping arrangements while construction is ongoing.

Fortunately, there are no hard and fast rules or regulations regarding the height of closet shelving. However, the typical height for a single closet shelf with a hanging bar is 70 inches from the floor. For a double-hanging system, use 84 to 85 inches from the floor for the top one and 42 inches for the lower.
