"We live at Lake Lanier with a fairly steep property from the street to the lake. When we have a heavy rain, it washes all of our mulch onto the driveway causing a cleaning headache. Spaulding had to build the new driveway with a tilt that directs the water between my property and my neighbor's. Riprap was installed on both sides of the driveway to keep mulch off of the driveway. The workmen from Spaulding arrived on time, were very professional, knew exactly what had to be accomplished in order to solve our water problem. The driveway looks beautiful, it was reasonably priced and will continue to solve our water problem for years to come."

"I had Ocean Seven Builders replace a roof on my primary residence along with a rental property of mine. They knocked out the work at my house in one day and were done by 1pm on the rental property. They were prompt and showed up first thing in the morning and did a lot of prep work to make sure there wasn't any debris falling on my deck table or in my air conditioner. They contacted me once during the day to confirm the color of two vents. I stopped by at lunch and they answered all questions, etc. When I came home in the evening from work they were leaving and they did not leave any trash, nails, etc at all. The roof looks great after the work was completed. I would hire them again."

"After listing on HomeAdvisor I got a call a few minutes later from BW Blacktopping. Gave them the specs, set up an appointment the next day for an estimate. The estimate was fair and reasonable, the lowest in the Fresno area. I agreed to the work and the next day they started and finished the job. From start to finish it only took 2.25 days from when they called to finished job. Everything went very smooth, they worked as a team in everything they did. The whole crew of about 12 workers, two Bobcats, 3 dump trucks and a pavement laying machine were at my property to install build and lay a asphalt driveway. The driveway was up a hill about 550 feet with a very sharp turn at the top. They graded, removed loose rocks and gravel, and laid down the asphalt. From start to finish the job was complete in 8 hours.; What an amazing job. The price was the lowest in the entire Fresno area and they came highly recommended. They were very professional in everything they did. If I ever need more asphalt work done I will call BW Blacktopping. Brian Eugene Patton"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

If you notice minor cosmetic problems with your driveway, you should seal it. Look out for cracks and holes on the surface, faded asphalt or concrete, and stains from oil and other chemicals. Replacing your driveway may be necessary if you’re dealing with significant problems—¼-inch cracks, large potholes, and puddles from drainage issues. The cost to install an asphalt driveway typically ranges between $4,200 and $9,000, significantly more than resealing. Consider talking to a professional to discuss whether resurfacing your driveway—a midway project between resealing and replacing—is a better option for you.

Overall, a paver driveway is considered the easiest to maintain because homeowners are able to do driveway repair one piece at a time without impacting the rest of the driveway. Unlike paved options, paver driveways contain individual stones that aren't physically connected. By comparison, you may need to reseal or redo a full asphalt driveway if just one portion sustains a significant crack.

Asphalt, which is stone mixed with tar, is the most common material for outdoor basketball courts because it’s so sturdy and versatile. However, you don't have to use it: another option is polymeric rubber, which has shock pads that can prevent injury. This option is a little more expensive, ranging between $16 and $25 per square foot.

Materials used for indoor basketball courts, such as hardwoods, aren’t really an option outdoors.

Asphalt is made of aggregate materials (sand, rocks, and gravel) and bitumen, a viscous, petroleum-based, waterproof substance. These materials are mixed together at extremely high temperatures to form asphalt.

New asphalt typically needs 24 to 72 hours to dry before it can handle light foot traffic and careful driving. Although it may appear solid after a few days, the full curing process, where the asphalt reaches its peak strength, takes much longer—generally from 30 days to a year.

During this extended curing time, the surface remains relatively soft and can be damaged by heavy vehicles, sharp objects, or high temperatures. To protect your investment, it's best to avoid parking heavy machinery on the asphalt until it has fully cured.

The exact time required for drying and curing depends on several factors, including the weather, the specific asphalt mix, and its thickness. For the most accurate advice tailored to your situation, consult with your asphalt contractor.
