"We had several windows and doors replaced and I was really impressed with the new windows and doors as well as the professional installation by Perry and his crew. They made sure everything was square, clean, and caulked. Great job! I highly recommend Metropolitan High Performance Windows."

"I hired Fast Screens owner David Mercado who meet me at my home, he showed me a video on his cell phone, explained the process and type of replacement screen he does. Then he took a look at what screens were missing and once we agreed upon a price he measured all of my windows and doors all this took place on Friday. By Monday he was back with all of my screens and put them on. They look beautiful very professional better than the original screens with the windows. David was professional and helpful, great customer service. I would highly recommend David and Fast Screens and will use them anytime I need replacement of any of my screens for windows or doors. Thanks David for a job well done."

"I was very pleased with my interaction with Brothers. Chase was a very good and patient sales person. Brothers was the first company I had give me a quote for windows but I wanted to check with others before making my decision. Chase kept in touch without being annoying. After getting several quotes, I was still impressed with Brothers, so went with them. They were very professional, showed when they said they would and installed my windows  (7 of them!) in a very timely fashion. Amir and Eddie did an amazing job! Kudos to them! We ran into a small problem regarding egress but that was dealt with to my satisfaction by Brothers. Thanks to Michael and then Josh for taking care of that!
Very please with their service!

"Guilmar was professional and knowledgeable, and was able to fix my original 88 year old window sash so my window could open and close once again. I plan on using him for other home projects as well."

Windows questions, answered by experts

There are several ways to reduce noise coming through your windows. You can seal gaps around the window frames with acoustic caulk or fresh weatherstripping to reduce noise and air leaks. Installing sound-dampening curtains, thick blinds, or shades can also help deaden sound vibrations. For an additional interior barrier, consider installing an acrylic or plexiglass sheet inside the window, which stifles sound while still allowing for outdoor views. Another strategy is to add external barriers, like dense shrubbery or a sturdy fence, to block neighborhood noises. If these methods are not effective enough, it might be time to install new noise-canceling windows.

When specifying window sizes, manufacturers use a standard four-digit code system. The first two numbers represent window width, and the last two represent window height. For example, a window with a code of 2917 has dimensions of 2 feet, 9 inches wide by 1 foot, 7 inches high. Windows with even dimensions include zeros as placeholders. For example, a window that is 5 feet wide by 2 feet high would have a code of 5020.

Yes, you can always make an existing window bigger, but the job complexity varies widely depending on the location of the window and the framing around it. Exterior walls are always load-bearing, so making windows wider will require structural changes that make for a more complex but doable project. Making windows taller often won’t require structural changes.

Whether you need a permit to install a bay window depends on the project's scope. Replacing an existing bay window typically does not require a permit. However, if you are adding a new bay window, requirements can vary. Adding a new bay window to the front of your house usually requires a building permit, while adding one to the side or back of your house often does not. It's always best to check with your local municipality to confirm the specific requirements in your area. Additionally, if you live in a historic district, you should consult your neighborhood association to ensure your project complies with their construction guidelines. If you're unsure about the process, a professional can provide guidance.

During hurricanes or other major storms, high winds can cause objects and debris to fly through the air, which can break your windows. Depending on how strong the storm is, the winds themselves may be strong enough to break your windows, too. Investing in storm windows or hurricane shutters can help protect you against potential window breakage.
