"I just purchased a home that had a canal that runs straight through my property. In order to get to the other side I needed a culvert put it in. I found Travis online and he was responsive and straight forward. Communication was excellent and he did extra things for me such as deliver gravel for me because I had asked him about it. Such a great guy! Would definitely hire him again! And price was fair! Thanks Travis!"

"These guys were fantastic, from when Mark first came out to meet with me till even after the job was done and paid for. They did it all, excavating, large retaining walls, sprinklers, sod, concrete, hooking up an old waterfall, fences and a very custom gate. Very easy to work with, all my neighbors complement the yard. I went from the worst yard in the neighborhood to what I believe to be the nicest but I m a little biased. I told Mark what I wanted and he gave me some options on what I could do, I couldn t be happier with the job."

"Had a great experience with these guys. They came out and excavated a bunch of dirt for me and graded it to get it ready for a new driveway. They also trenched for 3 inch drain lines that I had them install for all the erosion I was getting from the rain. The quality of work was top-notch. Everything was done right. They clearly take pride in what they do and were reliable. I highly recommend them. I’ll definitely be using them again."

"If you want to hire a company that will communicate with you, show up and work very hard to make your dreams come true, hire Jaime Hernandez of Maranata Landscaping Inc. Jaime and his crew did a top notch job in renovating our backyard. Our backyard is huge. It needed a total gut job and what we wanted and received was a beautiful and gorgeous drought tolerant backyard! Jaime has a keen eye when it comes to laying out the backyard with drought tolerant plants, bender board, pebbles, slate, river rock and bark plus the added benefit of Jaime asking us if we wanted certain things that we hadn't even thought about like accent lighting in our backyard. Yes, we do! I can't sing enough praises about Jaime and his crew! They were so easy to work with, so very trustworthy, always cleaned up after themselves, and I could go on and on. If you hire them, trust me, you will not be sorry. I am a very satisfied customer."

"Note i did not use them for my project as i had a slightly lower bid from a different contractor who i also liked. This contractor was very conscienentious to go over everything with me during the site visit, present and discuss options, and was courteous throughout the process."

"Apiece from the rising costs of repairs, and rebuilding, Greystone did a great job of rebuilding our fence, and helping the drainage, in record time! Took less than a week for either repair to be scheduled and repaired! Couldnâ t have asked for nicer guys! New gate and all work great! Drains are so good, that they are clearing more water than ever! Thanks Greystone!"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

To locate an underground downspout, you should start by identifying where the above ground gutter drains. Look for an entry point, such as a pipe or elbow leading into the ground. Follow the surface path for signs like depressions, landscaping disruptions, or wet areas after rain. You can use a metal detector or plumber’s snake to trace the pipe underground. For deeper pipes, a professional locator tool or camera inspection may be necessary. Visual markers or utility maps can also guide the search.

It’s possible to transplant trees as tall as 50 feet when an experienced tree planting service uses the right equipment. However, a tree with a trunk larger than two or three inches in diameter needs to be handled by a professional in order to yield successful transplanting results. Consulting a tree planting professional is the best way to tell if your large tree can be safely transplanted.

Digging a bush up by the roots is the most natural DIY method for removing a bush stump. Start by identifying the shrub type and revealing its roots. Cut the shrub to its base and loosen the soil, ensuring no utility lines are nearby. Optionally, treat the base with herbicide, then dig around the roots and cut a circle around the shrub using various tools. Dig a trench, cut the base of the root ball, and finally fill the hole to prevent regrowth. This thorough process ensures complete removal without damaging surrounding areas.

The best way to protect tree roots is to avoid the roots entirely by excavating outside the root radius of the tree. For nearby projects, it’s a good idea to construct a temporary retaining wall. But that’s not always possible, depending on the project and the root system. In these cases, consider using alternative equipment like an auger to tunnel under the ground.

Remember, tree roots can damage nearby cement foundations as they grow. If a tree is close enough to interfere with large excavations, it may be better to remove the tree than risk future problems.

No, fire blight does not survive free in the soil but instead is carried through insects, animals, rain, or wind during the spring. Keep in mind that it can also spread on tools, which is why you should always disinfect them in between cuts.
