"Tad was very polite, Kind and knowledgeable about his electrical craft. He did and exceptional job replacing our ceiling fan. He explained in detail what he was doing and why. He engaged in conversation while working and we both realized we have something in common “JC**** ******”. I would highly recommend Tad to family and friends. He was efficient and proficient. "Started good they put some ceiling fans changed some outlets. Then when he put a panel up we had a verbal agreement on the price, then he changed the amount after he finished the panel raised the price. He also started to show late or not at all without calling when he started the remodel told us one week took 3weeks. He also came in a hurry sloppy finish."

"Andy did a fantastic job! This house was a hot mess - wiring from the 30's, 60's and more recent - maybe the 80's. Andy removed all existing wiring and replaced, installed my chandelier and fan, new outdoor lighting and did everything with the most positive attitude and smile. I think he's the greatest thing since jelly beans and have already recommended him to everyone I know."

"I hired Jack and Sean to add a new ceiling fan junction box to the front living room. Jack responded quickly and by late afternoon we had worked out a deal for the job. The following day Sean and Antonio arrived early in the day to complete the work. They arrived on time in good spirits and ready to work. They ran into a couple snags based on the information I had provided Jack, but quickly overcame all obstacles and completed the job on time including the added request to hang the new light fixture. They cleaned up after the work was completed. I am looking forward to working with this new company again."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

When choosing a mounting bracket, you have the option between flush mounts and downrod mounts. Flush mounts are the better option for low ceilings as they feature a lower profile. Downrod mounts are the optimal choice for rooms with high ceilings as they offer a pole that adjusts the height of the fan.

If you’re replacing an old fixture with a ceiling fan, you usually won’t need a permit, but if your electrician runs new wiring for the fixture, you likely will need a permit. Building permits are necessary in most municipalities if you’re making changes to your electrical system, so even if you have partial wiring run to the area and need new wiring installed for added functionality, you’ll probably need a permit. Your electrician should be able to let you know if you need one, and they’ll typically file the paperwork for you.

Yes, you can install a ceiling fan where a standard light fixture is, as the electrical wiring is often similar and may not need to be replaced. The most important step is to ensure the ceiling can support the fan's weight and motion. You will need to replace the existing light fixture's electrical box with a fan-rated electrical box, which is specifically designed to handle the extra weight and vibration. These boxes will be labeled as suitable for ceiling fan support and will indicate the maximum weight they can hold. Before you begin, also consider if you need an extension rod for a high ceiling or a special mount for an angled ceiling.

There are many types of ceiling fans available, each designed for different spaces and needs. Standard ceiling fans are the most common type and work well in most rooms. Low-profile ceiling fans are better suited for rooms with low ceilings. Smart ceiling fans can be controlled with a smartphone or voice commands. For larger spaces with ceilings between 10 and 25 feet high, large ceiling fans are ideal. Dual-motor fans have two motors to produce more airflow in multiple directions. You can also find energy-efficient or Energy-Star models that can be up to 60% more efficient, as well as fans with built-in lights or retractable blades.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. After unscrewing the fan, you can disconnect the wires and remove the entire fan from the mounting hardware. For safety, make sure the fan switch is turned off before you remove the canopy. It may be easier to remove the fan blades first, too.
