"Tad came in and understood the problem at hand! He fixed a light switch as it related to a new ceiling fan and adjusted program code for fan. Quick. Intelligent. And he did not overcharge for job performed. Thank you Tad!"

"I cannot express how pleased I am with Javier at JNR Electric! I pulled the chain on my ceiling fan to turn off the light and the whole chain pulled out of the fan into my hand! I searched for a repair person and Javier was the first to call. I'm SO glad he did! Rather than trying to sell me a whole new fan, like another electrician tried to do, he said he would try to fix it first, and he did! He was there when he said he would be and his charge was very reasonable. I appreciate that he tried the least expensive option before moving on to more expensive ones. That says a lot about him in my opinion! I now have an electrician for life and highly recommend him!"

"We originally tried to pull out the canister ceiling fixture ourselves, encountered issues, and finally realized we needed a professional. Gil gave us a reasonable quote and came back later on in the afternoon. It turned out to be a more difficult job than intended, because the canister fixture/electrical box was too close to the roof line and could not be pulled from the attic area. Anyway, Gil was calm throughout the process, kept us informed, had to go out to buy a new fixture that would actually fit our situation, but did finish in the allotted time of the quote. We will definitely use him for our future electrical needs, and would recommend him to others."

"Andy did a fantastic job! This house was a hot mess - wiring from the 30's, 60's and more recent - maybe the 80's. Andy removed all existing wiring and replaced, installed my chandelier and fan, new outdoor lighting and did everything with the most positive attitude and smile. I think he's the greatest thing since jelly beans and have already recommended him to everyone I know."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

The number of blades for your fan poses both advantages and disadvantages. Typically, the more blades on a fan, the better the air distribution and cooling effect, but this also means that your fan will have more wear on its motor. For small rooms, three-blade fans should work fine. For larger areas like living rooms, four or five-blade fans might be the better option.

Stainless steel or aluminum fans are long-lasting and have less air resistance. They are best for outdoor use as their durability helps them withstand unpleasant weather conditions. Their heavy weight requires a stronger motor, which leads to more noise than other blade materials.

Wooden fan blades are a classic, durable option. They are much quieter than metal fans and feature a wide range of styles and finishes to choose from. However, they can be damaged by moisture if not covered with plastic.

Plastic fan blades are lightweight, easy to clean, and versatile. There are various shapes and styles to choose from as plastic is easily molded and dyed. They will also deteriorate slower than other materials as they aren’t as susceptible to humidity and moisture.

Yes, ceiling fans come with a few other features that help with function, style, and convenience. Multi-speed fans can give you specialized control over the airflow. Consider getting one with an integrated light to save ceiling space. Some ceiling fans come with a remote control that enables you to change direction without climbing a ladder. Of course, you can also consider installing a wall switch to enjoy that convenience.

Fan power is measured by CFM, or cubic feet per minute. For every 1,000 feet of square footage in your attic, you need a minimum of 700 CFM. Steeper roofs may need larger fans or about 840 CFM.  You can figure the size of attic fan you need by multiplying the square footage of your attic floor by 0.7. (multiply by 1.2 for a steep roof and 1.15 for a dark roof). That number is the CFM required for your fan to run efficiently.

Many ceiling fan-rated electrical boxes tend to be made of metal. However, some electrical boxes may also be made of heavy-duty plastic that is reinforced with metal support structures. It may also have an attachment that connects directly to a ceiling joist. If you are ever ensure, consult with a licensed professional to get their insight on best practices and whether the installation is a safe one.
