"We got bids from four contractors and went with Fence 4 U and are happy we did. Guillermo was awesome. He was friendly, reasonably priced, knowledgeable, on time and did great work quickly. Will definitely hire Fence 4 U for the side fence we'll replace next."

"The crew did an outstanding job installing the fence around our one acre lot during bad weather. Not only does it look great but it looks better than we thought it would and our neighbors agree too. The young crew was always on time, very professional, and always plesant and courteous. I was almost sorry to see them go."

"Nice people, they claim to give a lifetime warranty including resealing seems or any problem at all. They showed up as scheduled, took a bit longer than expected. I was very happy with the way it looked when they were finished. Im still happy with the way it looks. After they left I noticed they had drilled a hole in my concrete walkway and pounded in rebar to mount a gate post but they didn’t plan it right and I believe they called the owner out who decided to put the post in a more suitable place. Unfortunately the cracked concrete with a flush cut piece off rusty rebar remains as an eyesore. After a month or two the gate post on the opposite side began pulling out of the stucco on the side of my garage. I took it apart to find they used cheep plastic anchors so i just went and replaced them with metal concrete anchors myself so its never coming out again. I figured despite the warranty id just get it done. Fast forward to present June 2019 and i noticed that 2 of the base plates of the fence are not fastened to the concrete on one end allowing them to swivel out of place when the neighbors gardener does yard work it pushes them out of place. I contacted Sonrise and was given a date two weeks away that they would show up but they could not give a time. Sounds stupid but fortunately I’m retired and can sit home all day waiting for them to show up because hey what else do i need to do right? never showed up. I emailed again and the Forman called and apologized said he’d be out the following Friday. Never called never showed up. I emailed again and its been a week and a half with no response. so much for that lifetime warranty. I am really happy with the way the fence looks but cutting corners on simple stuff has me a bit confused because when you say lifetime warranty to fix ANYTHING wrong. Well you’d expect no short cuts because then you’d have to come fix the problems ... Unless... you have no plans to fix anything at all. I don’t care to write a review like this but when you jerk a customer around then just ignore them what else is left to do?"

"We needed a fence and were prepared to pay what it would cost but wanted to know our options first. When two local fence contractors showed up the same week I called for estimates; they ignored my inquiries after receiving their quotes - it left me extremely frustrated. That is when I found HomeAdvisor. I submitted my request to the first referral "Wild Sage Landscaping" and was given a quote and installation in two days. They were polite and listened to my concerns and appreciated I was upfront with our budget for the project. I now have a wonderful network to go to for more home projects: Screens, window repairs, ceiling repairs. I will recommend them to my neighbors and anyone else looking for kind honest and upfront quality work. I also believe in supporting our community and keeping services local. Which is why I was so disappointed when FF & VF ignored me as a professional women/consumer."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Santa Barbara homeowners often prefer horizontal wood slat fences made from redwood or cedar for a contemporary style, while Spanish-inspired wrought iron remains popular in historic neighborhoods. Integrated lighting, custom gates, and living green walls are trending features. Many opt for earth-tone stains and finishes that complement the coastal landscape, and some choose recycled materials for eco-friendly fence installation that blends with local scenery.

Helpful?

For fencing projects in Santa Barbara, knowing your property’s slope, drainage patterns, and soil stability is essential, especially near hillsides. Document sun and wind exposure, proximity to salt air, and the presence of mature landscaping. Understanding neighborhood character and any special zoning or historic district rules will help guide design choices. Mapping underground utilities and irrigation lines ensures safe, efficient fence installation tailored to your property’s unique features.

Helpful?

Common habits that reduce fence longevity in Santa Barbara include allowing sprinklers to spray directly on wood or metal, leading to moisture damage. Letting climbing plants grow unchecked can trap moisture and cause decay. Failing to rinse off salt residue on coastal fences accelerates corrosion. Ignoring seasonal cleaning or skipping quick repairs after windstorms can also lead to premature wear and costly fence repairs.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Santa Barbara often balance the desire for privacy with local height limits, which can restrict taller fence designs. Choosing low-maintenance composite materials may mean sacrificing the natural look of wood. Opting for fire-resistant or wind-durable fencing can limit style options. Some materials weather beautifully but require more upkeep, so decisions often weigh long-term maintenance against initial curb appeal and neighborhood fit.

Helpful?

Before requesting fencing services in Santa Barbara, document your property boundaries using a recent survey, and note any visible utility markers or irrigation lines. Record soil type and slope, especially if your lot is uneven or near a bluff. Gather HOA rules, neighborhood design guidelines, and any special district restrictions. Take photos of existing landscaping, wind exposure, and any mature or protected trees that may affect fence installation.
