"The work that DNA Cleaning Services performed today was exceptional. It was a one-time cleaning after our remodeling project. The service was so good that we’ve decided to hire them on permanently to perform regular cleaning each month. We would highly recommend this cleaning service!"

"We needed an extensive project done for our large yard, including replacing the irrigation system, planting several new trees, weeding, fertilizing, and spreading fir bark mulch. We received 4 bids and chose Humberto because of his knowledge and his willingness to work for time and materials. (He was next to the highest bid). Humberto and his crew did a wonderful job! Our yard could be in Sunset Magazine now! He is very knowledgeable and he and his men work very hard, very long hours. They had to spread a mountain of fir bark, and they actually run with the wheelbarrow from place to place to get as much done as possible. Humberto is the best landscaper/gardener I have ever worked with, and if it were not for the fact that we feel an obligation to our current gardeners, I would want him to take care of our yard on a weekly basis. We will certainly hire him for future projects. I highly recommend him!"

Weed Services questions, answered by experts

All herbicides come with risks, but you can control and mitigate risks by discussing your options with your weed service company before application. Some companies use milder or sustainable herbicides more times per season to control weeds rather than one to two herbicide sprayings annually. You can also ask your professional about pet-friendly and kid-friendly services. In most cases, though, you can wait a few days after the application for the herbicides to soak into the ground, at that point they shouldn’t pose a risk to you or your family.

Noxious weeds can be poisonous or act as an irritant to humans, but not all are directly harmful. However, indirectly, noxious weeds also compete with native species, effectively affecting our local ecosystems of plants, pollinators, and other animals.

Some of the particular herbicides that work best to get rid of nut grass without killing the grass include Halosulfuron-methyl, mesotrione, sulfentrazone, and metsulfuron. A herbicide like glyphosate would kill nutgrass, but it will kill nearby plants, too.

You should add 1 to 4 inches of mulch, depending on your garden type and needs. Keep in mind that no amount of mulch can completely prevent weeds, but a heavier coverage (closer to 4 inches) can suppress weeds enough that you are only seeing them sprout every few weeks. Finer mulch prevents weeds more effectively than large mulch, so if you’re using mulched leaves or shredded bark, 1 to 2 inches will likely suffice, while 3 to 4 inches is best for larger mulch, like bark chips or straw.

Yellow leaves and stems on your sprouts indicate they’re not getting enough light. Keep them near the appropriate light source and give them as much as they need (they require longer exposure to fluorescence than they do to natural light sources).
