Small jobs welcome

"Erik and his partner were absolutely incredible. I want so badly to say not to hire him so that he has availability for all the future projects that will be flowing his way but that just would not fair. He and his partner work quickly and diligently despite the extremely crappy job he completed for me which involved pulling and digging up a yard full of weeds. The work was thorough and no corners cut. Erik is friendly, on-time, and is communicative. Upon my initial job request, Erik had called me within 5 minutes of hitting submit, was at my house to provide an accurate in-person quote less than an hour later, and started the job two days later. When I say I am blown away by him and his work ethic I mean it. If you have any doubts about hiring him, throw them out the window. It will be the best decision you make for your yard."

"Black Forest was great. Not only did they do an incredible job with the things I asked for, they were responsive, reasonably priced, and quick to get me scheduled. I have already asked for them to do another job for me!"

Emergency services offered

"He was available by phone, and was flexible in scheduling meetings which is great. He was professional, and seemed quite knowledgable. In the end, I didn't use Nato's services because his quote was twice as much as the other contractor I was considering. Perhaps his prices may be more competitive in other services he offers. Either way, working with this company was a pleasant experience."

Weed Services questions, answered by experts

It’s best to pull weeds when the soil is wet, as it’s much easier. Wet soil is much softer than dry soil, making it easier to pull the entire weed up by the root. Also, since the soil is wet, the roots will let go of the soil and slide up with less resistance. Be careful when working on your wet garden, though, as wet soil is easier to compact, which can harm your plants.

If you have a lot of tree roots in your yard or have experienced issues in the past, you should use tree root killer every six months to prevent roots from infiltrating your pipes. If you have an active invasion and aren’t seeing results, check the instructions on the bottle to see how often you can use it in a short period of mine.

Crabgrass is very resilient, and homemade solutions like vinegar may not be strong enough. Typically, hand-weeding is the most effective option that doesn’t involve harmful chemicals. You can use corn-meal gluten as a natural pre-emergent herbicide, but it’s not as effective as chemical weed killers.

You should add 1 to 4 inches of mulch, depending on your garden type and needs. Keep in mind that no amount of mulch can completely prevent weeds, but a heavier coverage (closer to 4 inches) can suppress weeds enough that you are only seeing them sprout every few weeks. Finer mulch prevents weeds more effectively than large mulch, so if you’re using mulched leaves or shredded bark, 1 to 2 inches will likely suffice, while 3 to 4 inches is best for larger mulch, like bark chips or straw.

Mowing is one of the most important ways to maintain your lawn because it encourages grass to grow horizontally, creating a fuller, more uniform yard. On top of mowing your lawn, you’ll want to routinely fertilize your lawn, water it regularly, and take care of pests the moment they arise.
