"I did a self build and hired Phil from a referral from Ande's Pools. First off Ande is awesome. I do recommend him if you need a contractor. Phil seemed like a nice enough guy, I guess. We set the date for my pool to get plumbed and his crew out to install. The plumbing part took a couple days but he never ordered parts that I needed. It took almost two months to install my shear descents and over 3 months to get the lights to work properly. I paid this guy 10% over the price for the equipment and the "warranty and service" BS. All I get is a run around over and over. He charged my $500.00 for a trench for one low voltage yard light. The trench is 50 feet long. He told me to buy a light and wire and he would do it, really? I waited 8 months to install the lights, never happened. He sent a schematic of the panel. Gee thanks, I can look at the panel and get that. I am no electrician, but I can read. I could have already run the wire and connected the lights, but it is the principle of it all. I paid too much money for that and I wanted him to do it. I think he did a rush job on my pool and did crappy work. You can never call him. He might get back with you months later and tell you how busy he is. I would never hire him again, ever. I am Godly man an very trusting. I should have done a better background check and found a honest plumber."

Pool Construction and Installation questions, answered by experts

If you live in an area where pool enclosures are expected, like in Florida, having one won't necessarily increase your home value. However, it's worth noting that in warm climates, a pool can add $11,600 to $95,000 to a home's value.

On the other hand, if you're in an area where pool enclosures are not common, having one might set your home apart from the crowd. Depending on the appraiser, you may see an additional $25,000 to $27,000 or more for an enclosed, inground pool when it comes time to sell.

Small animals, particularly rats and mice, like to burrow inside pool heaters. To keep them out, seal any entry points with caulk or steel wool. Then, place mothballs inside or around your pool heater. As a final measure of protection, you can cover the pool heater in hardware cloth or wood paneling to further block entry points.

Your pool enclosure’s lifespan will depend on the type and materials, but on average, you can expect it to last 10 to 15 years. The climate and level of maintenance will also affect how long your pool enclosure lasts.

If you’re unsure of how your pool is doing in general, you can always get a pool inspection to make sure everything’s running smoothly.

Depending on your budget, wants, and needs, a pool enclosure can be a worthwhile investment. It all comes down to how much you use your pool, and what it would mean to you to have year-round access to it.

If you know that you'll swim in your pool a lot, then having an enclosure means you don't have to worry about the weather. It's also a lot easier to maintain the water, because you don't have to deal with leaves falling into the pool, and the water's chemical levels tend to be more stable.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.
