"I had an outdoor playground set. Adrian was professional and hard-working. Great communication and he brought all the required tools and equipment. He showed up first thing in the morning on a short notice and it was all done before the end of the day. The assembly looks great and I know the kids will love it!"

"Stephen S. Salinas, CA 0 friends 1 review 10/2/2017 Salinas, CA. 10/02/2017 Steve S.: My wife and I are both retired and have had enough of weeding our property and picking up other peoples' cat litter. We also wanted to add curb appeal to our home. I looked for someone that provided a great warranty, a great product, and would provide dependable and qualified workers. System Pavers was the answer to all these needs. Thanks to Home Advisor for their recommendation. Unexpectedly our first discussion was with Cecilia, System Pavers, Art Design Consultant. She gave us ideas and color schemes for our project. It made our Project decisions much easier, we went with interlocking Calstone pavers on one side of our front patio and a colorful rock garden on the other side. We then got a visit from our Poject Manager, Lester Yue, who took all the measurements, gave more ideas, and estimated costs. A border to our rock garden was added to our project. The workers were extremely dedicated to the job and worked very hard, continuously, in the hot weather and as promised cleaned the project site each day before leaving. We are very happy with our finished product, we do recommend System Pavers to all others with outdoor projects, and we will call on them again if we have other projects. Although System Pavers was more expensive, the quality of work, the final product, and the worry free, long lasting warranty, is worth the cost."

Patios questions, answered by experts

Yes, porches require foundations. The type of foundation required, however, is determined by the type and use of the porch. For example, a screened-in porch won’t require a new cement foundation. However, if you turn your porch into a sunroom or plan on making it a living space, then chances are you need a foundation that’s more permanent than piers and posts.

If you’re trying to decide between a sunroom and a screened-in porch, the right choice will depend on your priorities. A screened-in porch costs only a fraction of the price of a sunroom, but in exchange, it has much more limited use. A sunroom will add more value to your home, but at a much higher up-front cost and longer construction timeline.

In almost all cases, you will need permits if you plan on building a sunroom over your patio, but regulations and requirements will depend on your municipality. Permits to enclose your patio will usually cost between $300 and $1,000. Since navigating local building codes and zoning requirements is challenging—and the consequences of not following them can be extremely expensive—we strongly recommend hiring a sunroom builder to complete the work and pull the permits for you.

Yes, but ensuring the deck has a solid foundation with adequate footings is critical before building, as the weight of a sunroom will put significant pressure on the structure below. Even if your deck is properly constructed, it may not be able to handle the extra weight. While some basic, lightweight, prefabricated sunrooms can sit on a deck with a strong existing foundation without additional supports, in many cases, the foundation and joists will need reinforcement. It is always best to have a structural engineer perform an inspection to evaluate the deck's quality and structural integrity. A professional can help you decide if reinforcement is sufficient or if it's better to tear down the deck and start over.

Building a sunroom can take anywhere from two weeks to six months. An average-sized sunroom typically takes between two and eight weeks to complete, but more elaborate or larger projects can take longer. The final timeline depends on factors such as the sunroom's size, features, structural requirements, type, and whether it's a retrofit or a new build from scratch.
