"Great. My daughter contracted Air Duct Professionals to do her home. James, the technician, was professional, knowledgeable and did a quality job. I contacted Air Duct to do my home and requested James. James arrived on time and did an excellent job. He also helped me with a leak with my HVAC Condenser and diagnosed and fixed the issue."

"We had an HVAC issue develop on a Sunday. Contacted MSP and they scheduled a technician for Monday. They called us back an hour later and said they had a technician come available and asked if we were interested in getting serviced right away at the same service rate. The technician came by, fixed our system and even gave us some tips on our system. Very professional and informative. Excellent experience."

"August 29, 2012 was a very hot day, in fact I believe it was over 100 degrees.  My air conditioner suddenly stopped cooling and started making some very scary noises.   I called my usual A/C guys and they couldn't respond for two weeks, so I started looking on Angie's List.  I called several companies, but they were understandably too busy to respond right away.  When I called McLay Services, Inc. they promised to have a technician at my house within two hours.
In the meantime, I shut the system  down because it was making very loud sounds and not providing any relief from the heat.  Todd arrived right on time (if not a little early, thank goodness!)  Of course, when we turned the system back on it was not making the noises and was providing some cool air.  Nevertheless, Todd did a very thorough check of the system inside the house and out.  He checked the filters, air flow and several other items that could be issues.
About the time he was starting to explain that it was an older unit and probably just couldn't keep up with this type of heat, the noises started again.  Todd shut the unit off and opened it up.  He found that a contactor was burnt and no longer working.  He replaced the contactor, checked the operation of the A/C unit which was working beautifully and has been working fine ever since.
I was impressed by the quick response as well as by Todd's knowledge, skill, professional attitude and obvious pride in his work.

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

If you’re looking for a portable, budget-friendly cooling solution that doesn’t require any venting or installation, a ventless AC system is a good option. Similarly, this is a great choice if you’re renting an apartment or home and aren’t allowed to make large, structural changes like installing comprehensive HVAC, or you’re in a shared space and only need to cool your own room.

Setting your AC unit to 78 degrees can, indeed, help you save energy. In fact, according to experts, every degree you turn the unit up could save you between 1% and 3% on your energy bills. That said, turning your unit off entirely while you’re out might actually be less efficient than keeping it on at a higher temperature. Why? The unit will need to work extra hard to cool the house back off again after all those hot hours.

NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certification is not legally required for HVAC technicians in most areas, but hiring a professional with this certification is highly recommended. NATE-certified technicians demonstrated their expertise and proficiency in different types of HVAC systems, offering assurance of quality service. It's a voluntary certification, yet it indicates a commitment to professionalism and ongoing training. Choosing a NATE-certified technician often means you're working with someone who is up-to-date on industry standards and best practices, which can lead to better service, energy efficiency, and long-term cost savings.

In some cases, yes, portable air conditioners are worth buying. They’re a relatively affordable option for cooling small spaces. (On average, they cost between $100 and $500 per unit.) Plus, they’re easy to set up, and you can move them around to cool various parts of your home as needed. However, they aren’t the most efficient AC option, and they tend to be noisy.

If your HVAC system's capacity doesn't match the required CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute), imbalances can occur. An undersized system struggles to maintain desired temperatures, leading to discomfort. An oversized system might short-cycle, wasting energy and causing temperature fluctuations. Properly matching capacity to CFM ensures efficient and consistent heating, cooling, and home ventilation system performance.
