Customers say: True professional

"Leo was very helpful and quick to respond. We’re happy with how our 2 bathrooms turned out. Project was completed within the time promised. Our only complaint is that the workers did not clean up very well. But overall, we’re satisfied and we’ll use them again."

"Ezra has been maintaining our pool and hot tub for just under a year. He is great about communication and does an excellent job maintaining a very challenging pool (lots of oak leaves, high calcium/iron content well water feeding the pool, and delicate pH due to old copper piping and a fiberglass coating). I would highly recommend him for any pool no matter the challenge. Thanks Ezra!"

"Anthony did a great job installing a pool railing in my pool. Price was very reasonable. He was helpful in helping me choose the proper railing and just where it should be mounted. I love it and am using my pool a lot more"

Small jobs welcome

"Gary upgraded our pool system and it can now be controlled by our smart phones from anywhere. We love the convenience! We then had him install an energy-efficient variable-speed pump, and it has saved us significant money each month on our electric bill. He's always very professional and shows up when he tells you he'll be there. Would highly recommend Gary's Pool Service!"

Pool Construction and Installation questions, answered by experts

Consultation with the local government helps identify necessary permits, avoid project delays or legal issues, and protect project integrity.

Yes, new home construction will always require building permits, no matter where you live. In most cases, you’ll need a general construction permit, along with plumbing and electrical permits for the utility lines in your home. Depending on where you live, you’ll likely find that you also need permits for things like connection to a sewage system or installing exterior components, like decks, driveways, patios, and curb cutouts. Leave navigating the permits required for new home construction to a professional to ensure your home is built legally and safely.

A few different types of land surveys can help determine certain features and boundaries of your property. These include:

  • Boundary surveys describe the actual borders of a property. These are generally required when trying to get construction permits issued.

  • Location surveys provide much of the same information as a boundary survey but also include in-depth information about any improvements made to your property.

  • Mortgage location surveys are usually required by lenders and title companies before financing or offering an insurance policy.

  • Site-planning surveys are done before applying for building permits and can be issued before any major home improvements.

  • Topographic surveys provide a formal map of land elevations. It can also describe the location and size of natural features and any land improvements.

This is fairly rare, but sometimes the local government or a group like a historical society will label a tree as a landmark, or historical item. These designations almost always come with a small, on-site plaque for identification, but you should also be able to look up protected trees in your area on a city website or similar list. If the tree in question is a landmark, call your local government and ask how to proceed before making any plans.

Soil testers and licensed excavators are often the professionals you hire if you need a perc test. In some cases, structural engineers will also be able to conduct the test for you. In many municipalities, you’ll need your professional on-site to dig and fill the holes with water, as well as a representative from your local building department or health department. That representative is the individual who will determine whether your test passes or fails.
