"We had several windows and doors replaced and I was really impressed with the new windows and doors as well as the professional installation by Perry and his crew. They made sure everything was square, clean, and caulked. Great job! I highly recommend Metropolitan High Performance Windows."

Customers say: True professional

"After 20 years of neglect on my part, the windows in my house are now unbelievably clear thanks to the work of Justin and José from Clear Glass. I can recommend them without reservation. The two men did a first-class job washing the windows and cleaning the screens and the windowsills, both inside and outside. When I pointed out to Justin that two of the windows were particularly dirty, he told me that the dirt was actually discoloration caused by an issue with the argon gas insulation between the double-panes. He then told me that I should ask the manufacturer to replace the two damaged windows. In addition, José realigned three of the windows that had come off the tracks on either side of the panes. The cost of the job was very competitive, especially considering the time it took to remove so much dirt. Justin also gave me a seven-day guarantee to come back and redo anything that he had missed or that needed attention. (I did not need to take advantage of that service.)"

"Richard is wonderful! He is excellent with communication and very friendly. I needed to have some bird spikes placed on window ledges a good 15 feet high. He communicated all along the way, came exactly when he said he would and completed the job in a timely manner. The job was very successful, I’m happy to have successfully and safely deterred the birds . Will definitely call him for other projects in the future."

Windows questions, answered by experts

Regular cleaning, non-abrasive cleaners, and scheduling professional services every few months help maintain clarity and shine.

Window capping costs between $1 and $2 per linear foot. Since your average window size is 24 by 36 inches, you’re looking at 10 linear feet in total, or $10 to $20 per window. Labor adds another $30 to $100 per hour to the project. If you have custom windows, you’ll spend more to have your windows capped. Fiberglass tends to cost more than vinyl and aluminum, while vinyl costs the least but has the shortest lifespan and may have a higher long term cost.

Yes, storm windows should be tempered. According to the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors, tempered glass is stronger and can withstand temperatures higher than laminated glass. Tempered glass is important for storm windows because it protects against outside elements and household accidents by not producing sharp, jagged pieces when it breaks or shatters.

To find and hire a reputable contractor for an egress window installation, you should first research local professionals and then vet your top candidates. Start by searching for local contractors who specialize in this type of work, read their customer reviews, and examine their website and portfolio. Once you have a shortlist, contact them to ask key questions: Are you licensed and insured? What is your specific experience installing egress windows? Can you provide references from previous customers? Do you perform the work yourself or use subcontractors? What is the estimated project timeline and your current schedule? How do you handle payment?

If you decide to forgo your old windows and upgrade them to modern day technology, there may be some people interested in the old windows. You can try selling them on an online marketplace for around $50 to $100 each (so long as the window wasn’t damaged during the removal). This can also help off set the overall price to replace them.
