"There were multiple openings throughout the house. I thought it would be very difficult to match the texture and color of my aging walls (house was built in 1993). Marvin did an excellent job and now one cannot tell where the openings were. He did not end his day until the work was completed according to my expectations and left the area reasonably clean considering that this type of work is very messy. He was very professional and responsive to my concerns. I will definitely hire him again."

"They did quite a good job. The job was good. The problem with them is that you’re not going to be too sure when they are going to show up. I sent them my deposit in June and they finished in November. The end product was good but you got to be patient when he’s going to come. I would call them again. The pricing was very good."

"Team did an excellent job. Arrived on time each day and were very friendly, courteous, and flexible. Pricing was cost conscious and especially appreciated in these hard economic times. Highly recommended!"

"Within 15 minutes of contacting Valenz Painting & Trim through AngiesList, David the owner, contacted me by phone to discuss and came out the very next day to do a walk through to give me an estimate. I had quite a few colors with accent walls. I was given an estimate for the work to be done in about 5 days, he started the following Monday and finished that Friday early. The quality was absolutely great! The home was a brand new construction home, but even David found some flaws which he quickly pointed out and patched up for me. For a separate job, David recommended his buddy that is building custom cabinets for my laundry room. David was also very accommodating as I had other people there to fix issues from the builder. They cleaned up everything perfectly after completing the job better than how the builders left it! I definitely plan to use his services in the future again!

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

If you need a stronger magnetic surface, or you need to use a different type of paint in the room (like waterproof paint in a damp basement), there are other accessible options. You could fit a steel panel over the wall, try magnetic wallpaper, or apply chalk paint instead.

If you want an inexpensive shortcut, hang a pinboard or chalkboard on your wall. These removable options are ideal if you’re a renter who can’t repaint or plan to move in the near future.

No, you don’t need to apply paint primer to your wall before hanging paintable wallpaper. Manufacturers design paintable wallpaper so that the paint will adhere effectively, so primer isn’t necessary. Plus, even if you opt for a light shade of paint, you won’t have to worry about the shade underneath showing through because you are painting on a light, white surface.

Yes, many types of peel-and-stick wallpaper can be used in bathrooms, especially those made of vinyl or polyester. However, its success depends heavily on the level of moisture and ventilation. In bathrooms with good ventilation, such as those with fans, it can be a durable option. Peel-and-stick wallpaper may not adhere as well as traditional wallpaper in very humid conditions. For bathrooms that see a lot of moisture, like a kids' bathroom or a full bath with a steamy shower and poor ventilation, even high-quality peel-and-stick wallpaper is likely to peel over time.

The average cost to install or hang wallpaper is around $575 per room or project, with typical prices ranging from $200 to $1,500. Costs can be higher for custom or luxury products. Since project size varies, it's often helpful to estimate labor costs per square foot, which generally fall between $1 and $7, with an average of $4 per square foot. The total cost depends on several factors, including the quality and type of wallpaper, the size and type of the room, and whether old wallpaper must be removed first. Opting for less expensive materials like peel-and-stick wallpaper or choosing to do the installation yourself can lower the overall cost. For the most accurate estimate, it is best to have a professional inspect the space and provide a quote.

While textured walls can elevate a space in many ways, there are a couple of downsides to consider. Namely, they’re hard to clean, and some textures fall out of fashion quickly. Make sure to consider all your options to find one you truly love before diving in.
