"Lonnie is an awesome plumber! When I first got my house he installed new water valves for my washer. Just recently he came to repair my water heater because it was leaking. He noticed I still had warranty on my water heater. Any other plumber probably would have charged me for a new one. I really appreciate his honesty. I would definitely recommend his services"

"I am so glad I found ideal plumbing. I have hired many plumbers as a professional property manager, and this one is the most reliable, honest, hard working and dependable. I don't trust anyone else on my properties anymore and if Ideal can't do it then they usually are able to point me to who can. Ideal plumbing is my go to plumbing service."

"I hired Hendrix to reinstall 2 smart toilets that another plumber couldn't complete. He is by far the best experience I've ever had with *any* service provider in my 20+ years as a homeowner. As an example, when he came across difficulties with the existing valve being too close to the toilet skirt to where it couldn't be turned, he went and found 2 other valves (from the 90s!) that aren't even made anymore that fit that tight space and function perfectly. I was so pleased by his work on my toilets I asked him to replace my PRV outside my home. That was also done impeccably. And with regard to everyone's main concern: his prices are fair, and I know that from being gouged previously by other plumbers. Hendrix is prompt, polite and professional and is the template for what homeowners need from any service professional. I'll be calling himback the next time I need some plumbing work done. I am thrilled to have found him as a resource!"

Affordable Plumbers FAQs, answered by experts

A back pressure valve is a control valve used on production vessels, such as separators, treaters, and free water knockouts. The valve holds pressure until a set point is reached, and then releases upstream pressure to reset. Back pressure valves are not safety mechanisms. Instead, they are regulators designed to keep the fluid, gas, or liquid mixture in a system at a certain pressure level to prevent bursts and other incidents.

Meanwhile, a backflow preventer is a safety mechanism that kicks in when the pressure has already failed and contaminated water flows in the reverse direction. Most backflow preventers consist of two one-way valves, or check valves assembled together. This design only allows water to pass through in one direction but not the other.

Replacing a main water shut-off valve costs anywhere from $300 to $1,000, or more depending on your project’s specifications. You’ll need to replace the shut-off valve if the size of the pipe changes (as is common with trenchless replacement) or the material used in the new pipes isn’t compatible with the valve.

A shower diverter and a shower valve serve different functions, though some modern models combine them into a single unit. A shower diverter is a specific type of valve that directs the flow of water between different fixtures, such as from a tub spout to a showerhead or handheld sprayer. In contrast, a shower valve (often called a mixing valve) controls the water temperature and turns the shower on and off. A shower system can have both a diverter valve and a mixing valve to manage its functions.

No, a larger well pressure tank will not increase or improve water pressure on its own. The pressure control on the well pump is what determines the water pressure in your home. However, a larger tank does offer other benefits. It can hold more water, allowing you to run it for longer before the pump needs to turn on. Because the pump cycles on and off less frequently, there is less stress and wear on the well system. This can lead to a longer lifespan for the pump and tank, and you may experience fewer pump-related issues that could affect your water pressure in the long run.

If you want to increase your water pressure, you can try one of the following solutions:

• Adjust the tank’s pressure settings to a higher PSI (pounds per square inch).

• Replace your current pump with one that has a higher flow rate (GPM).

• Install a water pressure booster pump in your plumbing system.

• For pressure fluctuations, consider replacing your current setup with a constant pressure system.

Vinegar could damage drain pipes in theory since it’s corrosive in large quantities. However, you would have to pour a whole lot of vinegar down the drain at regular intervals to cause any issues. Adding a bit every now and then to clear out clogs is fine.
