"Jeremy and Joe from Nichols Electric were amazing. They came out the same day, designed and installed lighting and outlets for my garage and exterior. They even came back and moved some outlets for me in my new house. They were extremely pleasant to work with and helped me understand every step of the process. I'm definitely going to use them again on my next project."

"I’ve worked with Mike and his team for years on all kinds of projects, and they’ve always been amazing to work with. The quality of their work is top-notch, they stay on budget, and everything runs smoothly from start to finish. Their design sense is excellent and they always manage to get things done right on time. I can’t recommend them enough, truly a reliable, talented, and easy-to-work-with crew."

"Not a lot of upfront details given on the colors of poles, size of poles, look of lights etc. Team that came out was not nearly as experienced as the owner Tommy. However, they ended up turning out very well. Communication about design could have been better for the large sum we paid to hang bistro lights."

"Excellent service. Mark came prepared with samples of the type of shades I had in mind. He was able to quickly establish the product, color, and type of window covering that pleased me. He was professional, personable, competent and I felt that I was confidently given a very good deal."

Lighting questions, answered by experts

If your lights are shorting out during rain storms or other winter events, you should probably replace them. These shorts indicate electrical issues that could cause serious hazards. Look for outdoor-rated lights with connectors made for rainy conditions to replace them. But if your Christmas lights are new and you want further protection, you can find weatherproof covers to add to the male-end connectors of your Christmas light strings. These can minimize the risk of shorts.

Yes, most services include testing the system after repairs. Confirm with your provider.

Flickering lights, intermittent outages, or physical damage to fixtures signal immediate repair to avoid electrical hazards.

If you take home a pre-lit Christmas tree but want to spruce it up with blinking lights, don’t worry, there’s a simple solution. You can easily replace the light bulbs on the pre-lit tree with flashing bulbs. For a more subtle look, only replace some of the bulbs with flashing bulbs.

Yes, outdoor lights and receptacles should be on a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) for safety. The outdoors is considered a wet location where GFCI protection is generally required. A GFCI enhances safety by automatically tripping and shutting off the circuit if it detects an imbalance, which protects against electrocution and reduces the risk of an electrical fire. While it is the safest approach for all outdoor electrical components, specific requirements can vary depending on the type of light (e.g., pool lights), its location, and local electrical codes. For guidance tailored to your specific situation, it's best to consult a professional electrician.
