"The service professional (I think it was Tom), although friendly and professional, arrived two hours late.  I scheduled an appointment from 9-11AM, and he arrived at 10:50AM, hence the "bad" rating for punctuality.
When he arrived, he proceeded to perform the work that I purchased through Angie's List, which was a $100 garage door maintenance package that included greasing rollers, door balance check, and motor inspection.  Upon the inspection, Tom highly recommended that I perform the service that I outlined above.  He reasoned that the age of the springs and motor had exceeded the typical life spans.  He had the garage door opener motor, drive shaft, and springs in his truck and promptly installed them in 90 minutes.  He performed some tuning on both garage doors.
I rated a "C" for pricing because the garage door opener could be purchased for $300 just for parts of Amazon.  I was quoted $640 for the door opener and installation.  It took 1 guy 45 minutes to replace the garage door opener and drive shaft. Was that worth $340?  Perhaps this was fair price compared to competing vendors, but I didn't have a chance to compare.  So my perception is that the replacement is more expensive than it should be.  However, given that the work was done well, and he tuned the rest of my garage door, I'll rate the overall pricing as Fair for the scope of work done.

"Vince reviewed our property and the work that needed to be done.  In 2 days he contacted us with his estimate.  We felt his price was very fair and hired him for the job.  He was able to get to us quickly since we were worried about the spindly tree or the neighbors overhanging tree falling on our house during the upcoming winter storms.  His crew moved any yard decorations, solar lights, planters, or anything else that might get broken.  We have artificial turf under the tall tree and were afraid it would be damaged.  Vince's crew was able to cut the large limbs and ease them to the ground without harming the turf.  We had another small tree that needed removed that my husband was going to take out. Since they were able to get to our work so quickly he didn't have time to remove the tree.  Vince's crew took it out for us at no extra charge even though it wasn't in the original estimate.  With all the work that needed to be done and the clean up his crew was able to do everything in one day. They worked quickly and efficiently.  They were thorough in cleaning up all the debris and even took out old leaves that had fallen under the hedges.  They swept up any leaves or debris that were left on the yard, concrete, and driveway.  They were also very careful around our pool area.  These guys worked very much as a team in accomplishing the task while keeping safety in mind.

FAQs for driveway gate service projects in Millbrae, CA

When choosing a driveway gate, consider the fence material, whether you want an automatic gate or a manual one, and property limitations like the slope of your driveway. We recommend speaking with a professional driveway gate installer to see what types of gates will work on your property based on your fencing or home’s exterior. Keep in mind that driveway gates should range between 10 to 12 feet wide to ensure cars can easily maneuver through the gateway.

It might be possible to install your own manual driveway gate rather than an automatic one, but we don’t recommend it. Driveway gates are large, heavy, and bulky, and getting them to your house and maneuvering them for installation can be dangerous. It’s also challenging to install the gate and balance it perfectly so that it functions as expected, and wiring any automation mechanisms for your gate is also dangerous and requires help from an electrician. We recommend leaving the work to a professional driveway gate installer.

Driveway gates are expensive to install, but they are usually a worthwhile investment. Not only does this exterior feature improve your curb appeal and, by extension, your property value, but they also help keep your home secure. Driveway can keep out unwanted guests and provide additional privacy for you and your household. Plus, they can serve as a means of keeping children and pets in your yard, depending on the type of fence.

In most municipalities, you will need a permit to install a driveway gate unless you plan on removing an existing gate and installing a new one. You can either ask your driveway gate installer or your local building department to determine if a permit is required in your area and for your specific project. If you live on a corner property, additional restrictions may be attached to your permit that prevent you from installing a gate over a certain height or a privacy fence. Make sure you check with your installer about permitting before choosing a gate.

The average cost to install a driveway gate is around $3,500, and prices usually total between $1,900 and $6,000. However, security and driveway gates can cost as much as $12,000. Some cost factors include the size of the gate, the type of gate, the gate material, and the security level of the gate. A wrought iron gate will be more expensive than a PVC driveway gate, which will typically cost more than a wood gate. Automated gates are always more expensive than manual ones, as they require additional electrical installation.
