"Pete (the owner) and his roofing crew (Genaro, Alberto, Pedro) were great! Pete replied promptly to my initial inquiry and came out right away to look at the roof. Following that, it took somewhat longer than I had hoped to get an initial bid and to actually start the job, but his bid turned out to be lower than the others, and I could see that the delay was for the right reason -- Pete always prioritizes the roof he's already working on to make sure it's done well and as quickly as possible, so a house doesn't stay unprotected for longer than necessary. Once they finally finished earlier projects and started working on our roof, they were 100% on task from start to finish. They are a small company and ours was a complex, 4000+ square foot roof that required ordering special materials along the way, so it took about a month to complete the job with 3 guys working 40 hours per week. However, I really appreciated the way they always started promptly on time each day and worked closely with my wife and I throughout the entire process to make sure work was being done exactly as we (and the City's historic rules) needed it done. Pete and his crew were friendly and very accommodating of special requests related to the historic peculiarities of our house, skylights, neighbor's concerns about parking, etc. Many parts of the roof required creative, on-the-fly problem solving, due to the non-standard construction of our 1800's house. Genaro, especially, was great at innovative problem solving and did beautiful work, but everyone on the team was super dedicated, hard working, and skilled. We have already had one heavy downpour since the new roof went on, and not a single drop got through! I can confidently recommend Positive Results Roofing if you are looking for a small, personable company that is licensed and bonded and does quality roof replacements or repairs for a reasonable price."

"Ken Armstrong gave a prompt response and appointment made. Thorough inspection advising that the 18 year old composite shingle roof was in good shape, but quoted anyway. Will definitely contact the supplier again in case of roof questions or service."

"They are experienced roofers that are proud of their work. Prices are competitive and I am glad I did not have to waste time collecting several quotes. They come to inspect your roof, explain in details roofing terms in a clear way I understand, then they give you the estimate and from there it is a straight forward process. Next thing I know my roof was repaired in a couple of days. The workers are hard working people and the supervisor is there to overlook everything and make sure to resolve any unpredictable situation. There was a bird nest near my chimney and they placed the nest with a couple of eggs on a nearby tree. That was so thoughtful! A few years forward, there is no issue on my roof. My house is 40 years old and I need a new roof to be able to install solar. But the repair done by KiTA guys was so well done that I am postponing. I will hire them again and recommend KITA Roofing for family and friends."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

The best material to sheath a roof will depend on your budget and if you require the strength of more robust materials. For most homes, the added strength is unnecessary, and oriented strand board, or OSB, makes sense. It’s inexpensive and robust enough for most roof types. Another popular but slightly more expensive option is plywood.

Yes, because it prevents water damage, deters pests from accessing the roof decking, protects the roof from wind damage, and lengthens the roof's life. Plus, building codes require it.

A metal roof can last anywhere from 15 to over 100 years, with an average of 50 years, depending on the material, installation, and environment. The specific metal is a key factor: aluminum roofs may last 20 to 45 years, while steel can last 30 to 60 years. Tin can last for up to 75 years, and more durable options like zinc, stainless steel, and copper can last from 80 to over 100 years. Factors that can shorten a metal roof's lifespan include living in a coastal region with corrosive salt air, improper installation (such as laying over old shingles), and failing to inspect and replace fasteners, which may wear out before the panels.

Whether a metal or shingle roof is better for you depends on your preferences. Standing seam metal roofs require little to no maintenance, but if you install a screw-down metal roof where the fasteners are exposed, the gaskets on the fasteners will dry rot and need to be replaced. Generally, screw-down metal roofs need to be re-screwed every 15 to 20 years.

Metal roofs are energy-efficient and have extended warranties, while asphalt shingles are less durable than most. They tend to lose color and get damaged over time, and absorb heat from the sun.

The average cost of a metal roof for a 2,000-square-foot home is $11,700, but your price can range from $12,000 to $90,000, depending on the number of stories you have, your roof design, and the specific metal you choose. Reach out to a metal roofing company to get an accurate estimate customized for your home.
