"Dan was very responsive in bringing samples and eager for the work.  We chose a 5" maple flooring, that was a light beige color.  What we got was an all-over-the-place color palette that makes the floor look like a patchwork quilt instead of a flowing harmonious look. The range of wood goes from white, to a grey/brown taupe.  Why the installers chose to lay contiguous boards of one color and contiguous boards in another color, is something that baffles me.  I have come to learn that maple comes in various colors, but had I known this upfront I might have gone with a different kind of wood.  So communication was an issue on this.

I sent Dan pictures of the floor and finally, when pressed, he offered to come over and look at the floor which we found unacceptable and he thought was fine.  We're the ones who have to live with this and it's not okay.  I asked him to replace the boards that I found too outside the color palette and he told me he would have to replace the entire floor and it would be the same problem with the variations in color (which were not reflected in the original samples I was given).  If someone tells you they will redo your job but you'll get the same results, why bother? Because we are not happy with the work he offered to forego the last payment on the job, but again, paying anything for something that does not meet your expectations is money poorly spent.  Having said that, it was a reasonable of Dan to make this compromise even if we have to live with the end results.

While the installers did a professional job as far as removing carpet, floor repair and reinstalling baseboards etc., their aesthetics left a lot to be desired.  I had another contractor look at the floor and he was horrified that anyone would stand behind this work at any price. 
I'm not someone who enjoys giving bad reviews and would have been thrilled to say we were 100% satisfied but this is simply not the case.  It doesn't mean that Dan isn't a nice man, but his standards and ours did not match up.  It's the quality of the work and customer satisfaction that matters in the end."
