Small jobs welcome

"Quick response with quote, which was really reasonable. They were able to complete the project right away. I had them remove glued down wood flooring, which is really difficult. A couple hours after they arrived the area was cleaned and ready for install. Will hire again for other projects."

"I have approximately 900 square feet of grass in my back yard that had deteriorated steadily over the last ten years despite quite a bit of attention from me and my lawn care providers.  Tom and a team of five tore out the existing grass, tilled the remaining soil, replaced several broken sprinklers, deposited a lot of new soil, and laid down new sod.

The whole process took about a day and a half.

During the sod installation, a wire in my landscpare lighting was accidentally cut.  Tom came back and fixed the problem a few days later."

"Absolutely In love with the work that was done at my place! The result was even better then i had imagined, I had my bathroom and kitchen done. I have always been terrified of contractors as in the past I was ripped off, but this is not the case they communicated with me every step of the way and made this an enjoyable experience for me. "I received 3 bids for this project.  From the very first interview with Roei, a partner I was impressed with his ability to advise on some ideas to save money and make the kitchen more efficient, he was very professional and never pushed me.   I hired him to start 7/31/13, he quoted 2 weeks, and it was completed in 2 weeks, and the cost was as quoted.   This was one of the best renovation experiences I have had in the 40 yrs I have lived in this house.   All the workers, were polite, on time, cleaned up after, and did really good work.  I would hire Best Builders again for any home projects and recommend them highly to anyone else looking for a good experience in renovating any part of their home.

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Trenching and boring are two distinct methods for installing underground utilities. Trenching involves digging a channel using equipment like an excavator, trencher, backhoe, or shovel. While it is a simpler process, it causes significant disruption to the surface, landscaping, and surrounding ecosystems.

Boring, also known as directional boring, is a less invasive alternative that uses a drill to create a tunnel for utility lines without disturbing the surface. This method is more precise and is ideal for installations that need to go underneath buildings, roads, or bodies of water. Although boring is less disruptive, it is generally more expensive than trenching.

A joint utility trench, or joint trench, is a long, buried ditch on a property that contains two or more utility lines rather than running the lines in multiple trenches. Some utilities, like gas and electric or electric and communication lines, are better suited to joint trenching, while others, like water and sewer, are not allowed to be in the same trench.

Yes, an excavation company is the best option for land grading and yard leveling. General landscapers might be able to tackle these projects, but an excavation company will do a better job because they’re used to operating the necessary heavy machinery. Landscapers might opt to do the work manually, which takes much longer and could cost you more in labor fees. Finally, excavation companies will understand local regulations and know when you need permits to legalize the work, while a landscaper might not.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

Most residential basements are 8 to 10 feet deep. You can dig deeper depending on building codes, but it does become more difficult. You’ll likely need to install stronger foundation walls and additional supports to handle the increased load. Depending on the water table, you may also need a water management system. Clay soil can support a deeper foundation than sandy soil. A structural engineer will be able to tell you the maximum, feasible depth.
