"Everything about our experience was great and our house looks beautiful!  The estimate was very reasonable, and included a discount for Angie's List members.  The company accommodated our request for an earlier start date, and finished the job a day earlier than expected.  The crew did a great job keeping the site tidy at the end of each day, and cleaning up at the end.   We added two extra items to our original estimate, which were both cheerfully made at a fair price. Everyone at the company was friendly and helpful!  We would definitely use them again and will recommend them to friends.

From setting up and taking down outside holiday decorations that make our home shine every season to installing handicap railing in our garage with precision and care, Kevin consistently goes above and beyond. No job is too small—whether it's repairs or upgrades around the house, he handles each task with professionalism and a keen eye for detail. Kevin is reliable, prompt, and always pleasant to work with. His dedication and expertise make him the best handyman we've ever hired, and we couldn’t be happier with the quality of his work. "I bought the Big Deal which was just for a single top coat to reseal the deck surface.  However, my deck was in a little bit worse shape than the deal allowed.  However, Ryan was awesome and added in sanding and then did the reseal for no additional charge.  The surface is not perfect but that is due to the rough pre-condition it was in and not his fault.  Shortly after the reseal the deck drains started leaking in to the garage below.  Ryan and crew came out again to fix the drain at no additional cost.  Again, this was not in the deal I bought but they provide such great customer service.  I would definitely use them again and will recommend them to friends and neighbors!

"Mark and Wade were great to work with on the project.  We worked out the contract about 30 days prior to start of construction.  Mark was very amenable to some minor revisions I requested.  Mark did a great job of setting out the scope of work in a clear and concise way.  Work started as scheduled and finished in four days, although they did not work a full 8 hours each day.  The work days were comfortable generally starting on site around 9:00a and finishing up at 5:00p.  There were a few short understandable interruptions in work.  They cleaned up everyday and responded well to our request for additional flooring protection along their path of travel in the house.  Mark was very responsive to our questions and concerns and provided some valuable insight related to possible future projects.
We were very pleased with the result."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

There are a variety of second-story deck privacy ideas depending on your budget and aesthetic. For starters, you might consider fencing or tall privacy railing that masks a good portion of the open deck. A pergola or an awning can provide additional cover and shade. Outdoor curtains are an easy way to add or remove privacy at your convenience, plus they’re a wallet-friendly way to decorate your deck.

Both deck footings and deck posts help prop up your deck. However, footings are the bottommost parts of a deck that touch the ground. They’re usually made of concrete. Posts are pieces of wood that attach to the top of the footings with brackets. They run upwards and connect to the underside of your deck to support its weight.

Yes. Freestanding or floating decks are exactly what the name implies—structures with their own support beams. You can build a deck yourself and place it next to a house for the illusion of a connected deck without the hassle. Or you can construct it in a separate part of your yard for a dedicated outdoor entertainment space. For the purpose of removing a freestanding deck, the steps are the same as an attached deck, but you don’t have to cut the deck away from the home.

Staining and sealing the underside of a deck creates a moisture barrier but traps water in the boards, quickly leading to rot. No matter how well you seal the above deck, water still gets through via nails and screw heads on the surface. Allow this water to flow naturally under the deck, where it is routed through the drainage system.

What goes under your floating deck depends on your preferences. Some homeowners put landscaping fabric underneath their decks to prevent weeds from popping up through the boards. Others choose to build a floating deck over grass or gravel. However, it’s best not to set your deck directly on the ground. Instead, set your deck on blocks to keep it elevated enough to prevent moisture from rotting the wood.
