"Quick, economical, and professional electrical work. I needed to have a 240V line run for a new electric cooktop I was installing in my kitchen. This involved going through a pretty nasty crawl space. They did the job and patched the few holes they did put int he walls so all I have to do is get my touch up paint out and install the new cooktop. I highly recommend Electrical Buddy and wouldn’t hesitate to use them again."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

A weatherhead, the meter base, the breaker box, and a meter panel are all vital components of a working meter riser. If one part of the system is faulty, it could damage other parts, so consider having an electrician inspect the entire unit. The cost to replace the meter panel alone may cost $500 to $1,000, so consider this in your budget for replacing the meter riser.

You should never plug a normal 120v appliance into a special 240v outlet, as it can quickly burn out the appliance. This will cause irreparable damage to the appliance and, in worse case scenarios, cause damage to your circuit breaker. Check your appliance’s rating before plugging it into a 220v outlet to avoid electrical disaster.

There are various reasons why an electrical outlet can stop working. You might have to do some detective work to understand whether it’s a problem with the attached appliance, the outlet itself, or a faulty breaker. Sometimes, old age or loose wiring are to blame; other times, it can be as simple as an overloaded circuit tripping the system and cutting power. If you’re troubleshooting doesn’t solve the mystery or repairs, or replacements are required, it’s time to call in the pros.

To prevent a plug from overheating, always ensure that the electrical load connected to the plug does not exceed the plug's capacity. If the plug feels hot to the touch or emits a burning smell, immediately shut off the circuit breaker and unplug all devices from the hot outlet. Prevent electrical fires by avoiding using extension cords or adapters with the plug, as they can cause it to overheat due to increased resistance. Additionally, ensure that the plug is properly inserted into the outlet and that the outlet is not damaged or loose.

Yes, wire connectors are the better option for securing splices compared to electrical tape. It is not recommended to use electrical tape as it is not secure enough to keep the splices together. Plus, electrical tape is more vulnerable to damage, which can cause a risk of fire over time.
