"They are indeed knowledgeable and probably work with big spenders who don’t ask questions! They were responsive to returning calls and came within the time window they promised. They did a chimney cleaning, and inspected the chimney. They criticized our chimney’s construction, and also all prior work that had been done. They quoted a significant amount to fix everything but when asked further questions about the repairs needed, they became very defensive and arrogant. They indicated that they are they are the best resource and would not offer any other options of more economical ways to do the repairs. Also the owner used a lot of foul language throughout the visit which was unnesscarry unprofessional and offensive. In summary, I think they are knowledgeable, and likely good at their work, but their level of professionalism and customer interaction needs major improvement. The chimney sweep was priced about 15% higher than what I have seen, but the chimney was clean, and they also did not leave any mess behind in our home."

You can leave a tarp of a roof for up to 90 days if installed correctly. Tarping a roof is only a temporary measure and should not be a substitute for roofing repair or replacement.

Asphalt shingle roofs are more likely to leak than metal roofs because they are more prone to uplift and damage from extreme weather, moss growth, and ice dams. Asphalt shingles also lose shingle grit over time, which decreases their waterproofing qualities. Metal is a more resilient material that will stand up better to strong winds and heavy precipitation, ultimately leading to a lower risk of leaking. As such, metal roofs add to home value with a higher ROI than asphalt roofs in most cases.

No, there’s no specific building code that requires a roof overhang. However, installing your roof with the standard 2-inch overhang is good practice, as it helps direct runoff away from your fascia boards and roof decking and into your gutters. Some overhang is especially important in areas that see heavy rainfall and snowfall, as the risk of water getting under the roofing material and causing water damage is much higher.

To cap off a chimney flue, start by measuring its width, length, and diameter, if it’s circular. Purchase a cap that fits the flue, and decide whether you want a temporary or permanent model. Then, slide or insert the cap onto the flue and secure it with a screwdriver. Be sure to avoid over-tightening the screws to prevent chimney damage.

On average, a roof lasts 30 years—depending on the material. Metal roofs can last up to 70 years, while zinc, specifically, can last well over 100 years. These roofs can reach their intended life span with maintenance that includes seasonal gutter cleaning, pruning nearby trees to avoid damage, and routine inspections every year.
