"Trejos landscaping and gardening has completed several projects for us and provide regular maintenance. They have installed a new sprinkler system, and redesigned our side yard, installing some edging and wood chips and mulch around our rose bushes. They have transformed our front yard and we highly recommend them for any landscape or gardening projects. Arturo and his crews are wonderful, hard working and do their best to make sure that our lawn consistently looks amazing."

"I was fortunate to find this father/son duo and asked them to make some valve replacements on my system. They did the job so efficiently that I invited them out again, this time to replace and move some sprinklers. Once again, they were quick, clean, and fair in pricing. I have much less overspray going to areas that were duplicated, and the lawn is receiving a much greater concentration of water and is coming back nicely. We talked about installing some sod in the near future, and we will get a bid from them in the coming months. I highly recommend this business for any landscape or irrigation plans for their home. You won't be disappointed."

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

Fast-track your seeds to success by pre-soaking them for 24 hours in a shallow container filled with tap water. The water will penetrate the husk and moisten the embryos inside. After one day of soaking, sow the seeds in the soil. Never soak the seeds for more than one day (unless the specific variety calls for longer), as prolonged soaking could cause them to rot.

The first step in re-doing a bad lawn is correctly diagnosing the problem. That’s why we recommend calling a licensed and trustworthy lawn care company that can help turn your damaged lawn around. Once the problem is diagnosed and fixed, you’ll want to keep up with lawn maintenance by watering, mowing, and feeding your lawn the proper nutrients.

The best hardiness zones for St. Augustine grass are USDA growing zones 8, 9, and 10. However, with a bit of extra attention, it'll also grow well in zones 7, 11, and 12.

Sod is different from grass because it comes in thick layers of mature grass, roots, and soil for quick transportation and easy installation. This is different from seeding your lawn, which involves directly laying grass seeds into the ground. Grass seeds take approximately 30 days to begin germinating and up to 18 months to reach maturity, whereas sod comes ready to go.

Speeding up grass seed germination is possible, but it requires quite a bit of extra work and commitment. Keeping the soil moist is key, but here are a few other tried-and-true methods for growing your new grass as quickly as possible:

  • Mist grass up to eight times per day to keep the soil moist.

  • Purchase a moisture-retaining seed coating for your grass seeds.

  • Amend soil that is compacted or in the wrong pH range.

  • Choose the right grass seed for your area’s climate and soil conditions.

  • Avoid planting on windy days or during periods of extreme rain or drought.
