Customers say: True professional

"This company was awesome! Another company wanted twice as much to do the same job. They came and cut down my 40ft black walnut tree without issue. They also did a great job trimming my pine trees in my front yard. If you want a fair price professional tree service, hire these guys!"

"JC and Staff are absolutely on point. Knowledgable, quick and highly professional. Very well competively priced. They removed all the cardboard and trash so I didn't have a mess afterwards. NorCal and JC take really good care of Military Veterans, I know, because I'm a Vet. Don't hesitate to hire this company. They are my go-to team."

"Rob and Dave at Elite are extremely professional and knowledgeable. We had 3 foot weeds growing in the roof gutters in front of our house. They set up a date and time, and showed up when they said they would be here. Cleaned all our gutters, including 2nd story, without damaging the roof. Our old gutter guards had worn out and they recommended replacement with stainless steel, fine mesh, lifetime warranteed guards. Again, they showed up on time and completed the job. They were very professional, and careful with my steep roof as not to damage it. I highly recommend their services."

"The company is professional, yet very down home in personality. They went far and beyond to be helpful because my husband had major surgery and has not been able to do anything. They are the only workers I have allowed in my house when not home."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

If you’re planning on keeping the tree, unless the roots are invasive, there’s no need to remove them, as doing so can cause damage to the tree. If the tree has been cut down and the stump and roots are left, grinding and removing the stump can cause root decay for some species. For other species, the stump and roots will need to be removed to prevent pests, disease, and possible tree regrowth.

Unless there’s some sort of rule in your community’s homeowners’ association that requires you to remove a stump, there’s no law that says you have to take it out. If you’re not wedded to the idea of removing it, there are plenty of ways to get creative with this tree remnant. Using the stump as the medium for a wood carving or turning it into a planter are just two examples of ways to repurpose a tree stump.

Completely topping a plum tree is a risky business. Cut too much, and you’ll kill your tree. That said, you do need to trim the top of your tree to encourage bushy growth, maintain your tree’s vase shape, and limit size.

A plum tree's central leader (or trunk) should never extend more than 3 feet above the highest branch. When you first plant your tree, cut the central leader so it’s 2 to 3 feet tall. As it grows, cut it back 12 to 20 inches until it reaches its desired height. Never prune more than one-third of the new growth.

The typical lifespan of a Bradford pear is relatively short, only 15 to 25 years. However, these trees have issues long before their life is over. Due to their soft wood and fast-growing branches, Bradford pear trees often split around 15 years, making them a risk for falling branches and more prone to disease.

You should not trim an oak tree in the summer. Oak trees are especially susceptible to disease, and open tree wounds are an invitation for beetles that carry tree-killing fungus. If there’s no risk that the oak tree will do damage to your property or hurt someone, it’s best to save the trimming for fall or winter. If you can, seal the wound with latex to prevent fungus from getting inside.
