"They were very good. I had a good experience with them. We had an issue with the downspout they had relocated. The technician came back out and relocated the downspout. The awning looked very nice when they finished. It was professionally done from start to finish. It was expensive but it was of very good quality. It hasn't rained so we don't really know. We got it for the rain. We expect a very good result. It was expensive but it was well-done. The price was competitive."

"The fence is up. No one on the job spoke english, so when there were errors made, or when we had concerns there was no one we could talk to. My husband could never get anyone at the office when he called, however, the 3 times I called someone did pick up the phone. The communication between on-site, the office and us was very problematic. We contracted for the back fence and the gate, but when I called to confirm, the gate and the fence top we contracted for wasn't made aware to the contractor, but it was cleared up with my "checking in" phone call. When the workers came they only dealt with the back neighbors even though we were the ones who initially contracted with them and we referred them to the neighbors. It took longer that we thought. There was really no demo because the fence had already been almost completely removed, but they worked on the neighbors side fence before they completed the back fence, which means our yard was further subjected to the neighbors unleashed, un-monitored pit bull. There were problems with he stability of the fence initially, and the replaced fence was missing a post that had originally supported the side fence. We cancelled having the gate replaced, and my frustrated husband eventually said he wouldn't cut the check until the contractor came to check the work and address his concerns. In the end they found a way to connect the side fence to the replaced back fence (but without a post), they poured more cement to strengthen the posts, except they missed one, so my husband bought cement and poured it in the hole behind the post. They were highly rated on AL and I have to say that I am usually not disappointed when I use the list, but this was a let down. And perhaps the good service that others have experienced was based on socio-economic factors that I do not possess."

"Right before I left to LA, around March 2014, I had this company come and do some work for me in my old property in Sunnyvale (Bay Area). The "Good Fellas" are indeed act similar to their name. We began with small renovation. They replaced the toilet and changed the location of the bath so that we can put a Jacuzzi. Two months later we remodeled the bedroom, and then took down the walls of the kitchen. The cost was around the lower $50K. They did work for us for the past 2 years. At first we had a great foreman named Ron, great results. From our understanding Ron was promoted and was replaced with Adam - A very professional young man. They take every client & their project personally like he is the most important person on earth. I did not expect that, at least from a construction company. I would defiantly use them for my projects in LA and recommend them to anyone!"

"With a fixed budget and wanting high quality work done, I knew we were going to have to cut the size of our project drastically.  As the different bids came in, I realized how much we were going to have to cut back.  I saw an add in Home Concepts magazine For Mr. Pavers and looked up their website.  Their website was thorough and explained all of the work and the process. I also saw an ad for 30% off.  Realizing that I might be able to do my FULL project, I gave them a call.  The man on the phone answered the few questions I had in detail and was very helpful and said they would be out to give me an estimate on the day I requested at the time I requested.  I started Googling Mr. Pavers, and could only find one review.  After an hour online I couldn't find anything, and I was really worried about using a company I couldn't find anything on.

Grahame came out to do the estimate.  I was surprised at how much time he spent here explaining the process what was going to go on once they came out.  None of the other companies did.  The other companies did come out and give an estimate but said that we could talk about details later on.  Grahame also brought samples of all the different products so that we could see them in our yard.  He also gave the pros and cons of each different product.  This was SO helpful!  We got a few other estimates and finally decided to go with Mr. Pavers.  I was worried about the work as I couldn't find much on them, but we only had to put $500 down and the rest was due upon completion and 100% satisfaction.  On Wednesday Grahame said that the guys could be out to our house as early as Friday at 9am and that they would be done by Tuesday.  On Friday, the crew showed up at 8:50a and Grahame did a walk through with the site manager and explained all the work that needed to be done.  I was impressed at how fast and neatly the crew worked.  Real amazement came on Monday as the crew started leveling and shaping the excavated area.  They spent hours on their knees with the level making sure everything was PERFECT.  The amazement continued when they started cutting and laying the pavers.  The most beautiful part is the step that they put in!  As one of the men put in the step, I realized what a skill masonry is.  Every paver is perfectly cut, perfectly placed and perfectly laid!

The work was completed on Tuesday as promised.  On Wednesday, Grahame and the site manager came back to make sure everything was how we wanted it and to make sure we were happy with the job.  No money was asked for until we were 100% happy!  We are so happy with the work they did and the beautiful patio we have!

We still need to do the side yard and walkway.  We will be using Mr. Pavers again and would definitely recommend them to anyone thinking about putting in pavers."

"While the contractor was late, he did call. My shower valve only put out hot water. In order to fix it, the entire system had to be replaced. It took a long time, but he was able to do the job without destroying the whole shower wall system. In other words, he took apart and soldered pipes in a 6" circular area. That was great. Shower works fine now.
He is to come back and install electrical boxes in ceilings of two bedrooms along with fans.

"Went great. He works in an efficient and tidy fashion, and takes time to share his knowledge of the job so I feel I understand the work needed much more clearly than I had when I called him. He found more rust than either of us had hoped but we were able to create a clear maintenance plan that I can do myself for the future, and he encouraged me to see that I can defer the big job of replacing a metal kick plate railing instead of worrying right away."

"Here are 3 reasons I am grateful I was able to find Carlos to help me with installations and repairs around our house: #1) Carlos puts in extra hours to do the installations and repairs with excellence and expertise. I am grateful I found his services. Previous handymen I hired, installied things in-correctly from the onset, but Carlos was able to correct these issues immediately. His 40 years of construction experience are evident in the fact that anything he works on is done so well and with such care, that there is no fault to be seen which instills confidence in me that everything that was done by him will last. His expertise is also evident in the recommendations he gives in terms of the quality of materials he chooses. When I had our kitchen remodeled, they put in a floor border made of chipboard that started deteriorating within days. Carlos made sure to replace these borders with wood that has a clean and solid look and feel. #2) If anything should go wrong during installation or replacement, he will do what is needed to take care of it immediately; in my case, the plumbing connections were so rusted under our kitchen faucet area, that they broke and sprayed water everywhere; Carlos shut off the water, and made sure the leaking stopped and was cleaned, before going over to Home Depot to bring back the replacement and installing it #3) Carlos is willing help you find the right product by being ready to meet you at the hardware store of your choice and giving his advice and information about product quality and appropriateness in terms of measurements. I am happy that I found someone who gives his all to home projects in terms of time and care, has the expertise to do these projects well, and is there to advice on and repair any additional problems that might arise."

Patio Covers questions, answered by experts

Besides the type of awning, you’ll need to choose the type of cover. Your awning installation professional will review your options with you, including availability and costs. The types of covers you can choose from include:

  • Wood, which is durable but can be damaged easily by rainwater and fire

  • Cotton offers flexibility, weatherproofing, and easy cleaning

  • Canvas is highly durable and is a good choice for retractable awnings

  • Metal is sturdy but is prone to rust

  • Polyester is easy to clean and is a more breathable option

  • Polycarbonate is highly resistant to UV rays and is difficult to damage

It’s best to keep your awning retracted if winds are 25 miles per hour or more to make sure your awning doesn’t sustain irreparable damage due to wind. Some awnings can take winds up to 30 miles per hour without any damage, but it’s best to consult the manufacturer’s guidance. A good rule of thumb is if it’s too windy for you to comfortably stand outside, it’s time to bring the awning in.

The longest-lasting awning materials include vinyl, polycarbonate, and polyester for their durability and cleanability. Other materials like canvas and metal can last a long time, but may wear out faster. The key to getting the longest life from your awning material is to maintain it properly by cleaning yearly, keeping debris from gathering on it, and protecting it during stormy weather or high winds by retracting it or moving it to a protected area.

Costs range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on size, material, and design complexity.

Awnings are either fixed or retractable and can be paired with a variety of cover materials. Fixed awnings are a permanent outdoor feature of a building. These are highly durable and require ongoing maintenance. Once installed, the position of this awning cannot be changed.

Retractable awnings are more popular than fixed awnings since the cover can open and close. This allows homeowners to open and close the awning, depending on the weather. When not in use, it can be closed to allow for extra space.
