"We had Zion, Carlos and the entire team of Brothers and Brothers just finish an entire house remodel of a tired 1955 house. My wife has a good eye and a strong spirit and we knew many of the things that we wanted. Our expertise stopped on our color scheme and layout of the house. That is where the team took our house to another level. Put the ceiling beams above the ceiling. remove the ceiling above the stairway and create 20 ft ceilings. The made our home the dream home we couldn't even imagine. Great Team, Incredible eye for detail. GREAT JOB...."

"Our kitchen remodel with McCormick Home Builders went beyond our expectations. Leoni and her team took the time to understand exactly what we wanted. The open layout design changed the way we use the space, and it’s been perfect for family gatherings. They were prompt, courteous, and genuinely invested in making sure we were happy. "Highly Recommended! Amazing Full-House Remodel with GVR! I am so glad I chose GVR! In 2025, I bought an old 1957 3b2b house in Santa Clara. It needed a complete remodel, especially the kitchen and bathrooms. Since I am not from the US and have zero experience with American houses, GVR completely blew me away with their amazing work. They are absolute pros. They made a perfect, custom plan with their talented designer. They carefully explained every detail to me step-by-step, always asked for my ideas, and gave great advice. The crew worked so hard every day from 8 AM to 6 PM. They beautifully changed our 3b2b into a 3b3b in just 3 months! This was much faster than I expected, and the quality is outstanding. We love living here now. I highly recommend GVR!"

"I enjoy it every day. Thank you. They remodeled 2.5 bathrooms. Best Construction were able to install all the materials bought, saved pieces that i wanted and perfectly match the style. I saved money on the glass doors and mirrors. Items in my home were covered during the remodeling, so we didn't have much dust."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

Modular homes are a type of prefab home. Specifically, manufacturers first build modular homes in sections and then deliver them to the job site. The modules, or sections, are usually at least 70% finished before they arrive on your property.

In comparison, prefab homes arrive in panels or segments, and workers assemble them on-site. Generally speaking, modular homes tend to be more durable, and their consistent construction standards may mean you’ll have an easier time getting conventional home loans.

Builder-grade is one of two types of stock cabinets, whereas semi-custom designs allow homeowners some control over the color, finish, or hardware on their cabinets. Stock cabinets are sold in construction-grade and builder-grade designs. Construction-grade cabinets are usually made from inexpensive medium-density fiberboard, which is prone to moisture damage, whereas builder-grade models are a step up with higher-quality materials. Construction-grade designs are the most common type of cabinets in America.

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

In most cases, you should get an architect before you hire a builder. An architect will be the one to draw up formal plans for your project, including guidelines and even material lists for your builder to follow during construction. Many architects can even help you find builders, choose one for your project, and negotiate prices. Some are also willing to act as project managers throughout the process, working closely with a builder from start to finish.

Modular homes last an average of between 50 and 75 years, and high-quality modular homes can last for 100 years with proper maintenance. For comparison, a standard home lasts 50 to 100 years and can push to 150 or longer with good maintenance. Modular homes provide better long-term value in that they are significantly more affordable and can last almost as long, but some buyers are wary of modular home longevity, so the actual value if you sell could be lower.
