Customers say: True professional

"We hired McCormick Home Builders to remodel our living room, and we are beyond pleased with the result. The team was professional, worked efficiently, and Aris design ideas made a huge difference. The room feels so much brighter and more spacious. This was the best decision we made for our home, and we were already planning our next remodel with them."

"I added a Master bedroom, bathroom, and extended my living room. I also rebuilt my deck. Alberto (Owner of Apex construction) is decent, honest, professional, easy to work with, and keeps his word. Alberto is hard working and determined. His crew took care of matters quickly, they were knowledgeable, clean and fast. Alberto gives good suggestions and most importantly listens to his clients. Apex construction is a great company and do an excellent job and I would recommend Alerto and Apex construction without hesitation."

"Highly Recommended! Amazing Full-House Remodel with GVR! I am so glad I chose GVR! In 2025, I bought an old 1957 3b2b house in Santa Clara. It needed a complete remodel, especially the kitchen and bathrooms. Since I am not from the US and have zero experience with American houses, GVR completely blew me away with their amazing work. They are absolute pros. They made a perfect, custom plan with their talented designer. They carefully explained every detail to me step-by-step, always asked for my ideas, and gave great advice. The crew worked so hard every day from 8 AM to 6 PM. They beautifully changed our 3b2b into a 3b3b in just 3 months! This was much faster than I expected, and the quality is outstanding. We love living here now. I highly recommend GVR!"

"Larissa is fantastic! Her designs are beautiful, and her service is great. She works hard to make sure that the customer is happy, her response time is excellent, and the work is timely too! I constantly hear that kitchen remodels run months over what was expected. Not the case here! So happy with our beautiful kitchen. And the built-ins in our dining area are gorgeous. Love!"

Custom Home Builders questions, answered by experts

It pays to hire a project manager or general contractor when you have a large-scale project that will take over a week to complete, especially when it involves structural changes and multiple subcontractors. This includes hiring a general contractor to build a house, add an extension, or manage other projects that need a building permit.

Yes, you can finance new construction, though the process often requires a different type of loan than one for an existing property. There are several financing options available:

  • Construction-to-Permanent Loan: This is a common option where a single loan covers the building costs and then converts into a traditional mortgage once construction is complete and you move in.

  • Construction Loan (Stand-Alone): This type of loan provides funding only for the duration of the construction project. Once the house is built, you will need to pay the loan in full, typically by securing a separate, standard mortgage.

  • Builder Financing: Some custom homebuilders offer their own financing options, which may only require a down payment to begin the building process.

  • Bridge Loan: This can be a useful short-term loan to fund your new construction while you are in the process of selling your old home.

  • Home Equity Options: If you are building a second home, you might be able to use a home equity line of credit (HELOC) or a cash-out refinance on your current property.

It's also important to be aware that some lenders may have restrictions on financing for DIY house builds, so be sure to verify that you can secure financing before starting your project.

It usually takes around four to six months to build and install a modular home, although your timeline could go up to around eight months if there are delays in the manufacturing or permitting process. Heavy site preparation and foundation pouring can extend that timeline if you need them, as can customizations you want for your modular home. Your modular home company should be able to provide an estimate for the construction timeline before you sign any contracts or agree to any work.

While it’s never too early to start planning for a major home improvement project like a home addition, give yourself at least a month or two to plan and design your addition, find a contractor, and get the permits in order. For larger projects like a second-story addition that require designing with an architect, plan on three to four months of preparation.

Whether a prefab home is worth it or not will depend on your personal needs and preferences. Overall, prefab homes tend to cost less than traditional homes, although they also tend to have lower resale values. Another thing to consider is that prefab homes usually last 50 to 60 years or longer, while traditional homes last 50 to 100 years or more.
