"I had a leak. They checked the problem very thoroughly. Upon installing the new faucet they were able to solve the problem. A prior plumber could not handle this."

"After lining up three plumbing contractors to install a kitchen faucet, a garbage disposal and fix a drainage leak, I selected Superior Plumbing to do the job because their technician seemed to have the necessary professionalism for a good job and they were also the least expensive of the three contractors I contacted. My service tech Armin was on time, cheerful, courteous and knowledgeable. It was obvious that he cared for my particular needs and he even announced that he loves his job and always looks forward to doing things right. He took almost exactly the time that was originally quoted and did an excellent job, cleaning up thoroughly before leaving. I wouldn't hesitate to use their services again. Thanks Armin."

"The sewer line backed up at 8PM on a Sunday night. Called J Drains because they could come out right away. We've had problems with tree roots in the past, so figured that was the issue. They showed up around 10PM and stayed until 12AM, but were unable to clear the blockage. The person came back the next day and eventually cleared the blockage, or so I thought. One week later it was clogged again. Ended up calling another company who replaced a 12 ft section of the main sewer line between the house clean out and the city clean out (all under the yard, not the patio, thankfully).
I give J Drains credit for showing up late at night and trying to fix the issue. However, in retrospect, the guy that showed up did not really know what he was doing. The house clean out (a two way clean out) was holding water, which means that the clog was downstream. The city clean out 12 ft away was dry, so clearly the clog was in between those two. However, time after time, he put the cable down the clean out and fed out nearly 60 ft of line. Obviously that was running into the house, and he could have damaged the plumbing in the house. Then he tried to tell me that the clog was upstream of the house clean out that was holding water. How is that possible?! There was talk of busting up the courtyard patio, etc. He even took the cable up on the roof and went through a bathroom vent trying to clear the blockage. Eventually, he got lucky, and the cable went the correct direction through the house clean out, punching through the clog. Too bad the sewer line was so damaged, that a week later, it had to be replaced. This time, by a company who could correctly locate the position of the blockage, and recommend a logical plan of attack.
The last thing that bothered me about J Drains was the bill. While the cost was reasonable, the guy who came out told me that his boss wanted him to charge me over $1000 for a list of things. He proceeded to tell me that he was going to waive all those fees and only charge me $400 total (for the previous night plus that day). At the time, I thought I was getting a deal, but the more I thought about it, the more it annoyed me. It felt like they were jacking their prices up, so they could then discount it, making me feel better about what I was paying. If he was really invoicing people for less than half what he should, he'd be out of a job. So clearly, this is a company practice to make people think they're getting a deal. Not professional at all.

"I called Carlos for an estimate on a few minor home repairs. He called back the same day and scheduled a day the following week to come out for the estimate. While at my home for the estimate, he fixed the kitchen faucet and hung one of the cabinets. He came back two days later and completed the other work (including hanging several kitchen cabinets that kept falling off). I was surprised to discover he had even purchased a curtain rod almost identical to a rod in another room (I had planned on buying the rod before he returned, so this saved me some time.)

Before getting started, Carlos told me what each repair would cost and made sure I was in agreement on the price. After the repairs had been done, then sent me an itemized list of the work. He even fixed a side gate that had fallen off its hinges for free.

Carlos was also great about offering solutions for problems. We have fussy old wall-hung toilets, one of which is cracked and in such disrepair that Carlos said it probably needed to be replaced. I had been told by a contractor that it would be very expensive to replace, but Carlos found a replacement toilet online at a lower price than I had expected and quoted a good price for the labor to install it. When I asked about replacing our bathroom cabinets, he pointed out that the cabinet construction is good and we could simply replace the countertops and fixtures--a less expensive solution than demolishing the cabinets and entirely replacing them.

Carlos was responsive, professional, and friendly. His prices are very reasonable. I will definitely call him again!"

"Nato came on a Thursday and did an initial estimate. He was very clear that the garden would look a little bare for a few weeks as he'd have to cut things back pretty far. His estimate was 1/2 that of the other companies we talked to, and he was willing to come on the weekends, which made things much easier for us. He came back just three days later (on a Saturday) and two of his men spent 8 hours here. They left with a truck overflowing with trimmings, and even removed a small tree for us. Nato supervised them at the beginning and end, and the team was great to work with (we were working in the front yard while they were in the back) - extremely helpful and courteous. Total bill was just what he said - $500. We also gave each of the two guys a tip (though we were never asked to do so and I didn't even detect a hint of expecting one). The cleanup looks great though, as he cautioned, things are a little barren while we wait for them to grow back. For large cleanup jobs, this company is excellent. Though I use an all organic company for regular maintenance now (I would use Nato if I was not so into organic gardening), I will certainly call Nato and his team for the next large job. Highly recommend."

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

Continuous feed garbage disposals are the favorite model for many homeowners for a reason. As opposed to batch feed models, add food scraps to the drain whenever the disposal is running. This variety is also typically less expensive, more convenient, and easier to clean.

If the cost of repairing a leaking garbage disposal is close to the cost of replacing the disposal, then fixing the unit might not make sense. When deciding if you should repair or replace your garbage disposal, consider the age of your garbage disposal, the cost of the repair, and whether your garbage disposal has had other problems recently to help you decide if the cost of repairing the leak is better than the cost of replacing the disposal.

While the drain connection for a garbage disposal is nearly universal and fits standard sink drain holes of 3 1/2 to 4 inches, the size of the disposal unit itself is not. You must have enough space in the cabinet underneath your sink to accommodate the disposal's housing. A larger model may not fit in a compact cabinet or if the existing plumbing is arranged in an unusual way. Before buying a new garbage disposal, measure the available space under your sink. If you are replacing an old unit, it's often easiest to choose a new model of a similar size.

To prevent drain clogs, perform regular maintenance and cleaning. Avoid disposing of substances like grease or coffee grounds down the sink. Additionally, installing and routinely using drain strainers can help catch debris and prevent blockages from forming.

On average, a garbage disposal can last anywhere from 7 to 12 years, with many models functioning well for about 10 years. With heavy usage, a motor may last a minimum of five years, while grinding plates will wear down over time. It's generally a good idea to consider a replacement if your unit is approaching the 10-year mark. Other signs that it's time for a new disposal include frequent leaks, persistent clogs, lingering odors, lack of power, or unusual noises. If your unit is not that old, it's worth investigating if a less expensive part, like a rubber seal or a loose hose, is causing the issue.
