A local electrical contractor inspected it but couldn’t repair the issue, so we turned to the expert—Pete Poillon. I’m incredibly glad we did. Pete promptly diagnosed the problem: the controller board needed replacing. Kohler confirmed the part was covered under warranty, but required us to contact their Rancho Cucamonga service location. That’s when things got costly. They charged $3.95 per mile plus $185 per hour for travel time, bringing the total service estimate to a staggering $1,500–$1,800. In hindsight, choosing a Kohler generator was a major misstep. If we had gone with Generac, warranty service would have been handled locally by Poillon Electric at no extra charge.
