"There was an unexpected charge for punching a hole in the drywall and installing a five foot copper wire from nearest light switch box to feed to each of the 4 lights. There was a second upcharge to convert from 6 inch to the modern 4 inch diameter LED lights (expected). Unfortunately one of the workers started his work early failing to understand that 4 inch was to be installed, he cut a hole for 6 inch. Now the drywall has to be patched to close the hole. They were punctual, fast & cleaned up. There is more work to do, ie convert existing 6 inch incandescent down lights on the lower two floors, those total to about 15. This work was done on the third level. I would re-hire if these things were addressed."

Pete promptly diagnosed the problem: the controller board needed replacing. Kohler confirmed the part was covered under warranty, but required us to contact their Rancho Cucamonga service location. That’s when things got costly. They charged $3.95 per mile plus $185 per hour for travel time, bringing the total service estimate to a staggering $1,500–$1,800. In hindsight, choosing a Kohler generator was a major misstep. If we had gone with Generac, warranty service would have been handled locally by Poillon Electric at no extra charge. Lesson learned—we won’t make that mistake"
