"I cannot say enough positive about Silver Stat Painting. Jerry's team is fast, efficient clean, and friendly. They love what they do, which reflects in the quality of their work. I highly recommend this company. After my in-laws had their home painted, I had them paint the ecterior of my home and then the interior of our office."

"The large paint crew came early and finished my one story house by 4pm. They painted the stucco, trim, siding and gates. The work was neat and professional, and the crew polite and cooperative. Jame's price was excellent and lower than the other two estimates I obtained. My house looks wonderful!!"

"Tye and his team were very professional and honest. They started the job as promised and completed the entire painting and partial deck replacement in 3 weeks. He explained everything step by-step breaking down the cost for additional asking. His crew of 4 people were very professional and on-time working very hard. They sand down the entire three story house and applied primer and detailed painting. I highly recommend Tye and his company."

"Aaron is a great guy to work with and does excellent work. He knows his mountain conditions and that painting up here requires attention to detail. He went above and beyond to make sure my house was water-tight and protected, and his pricing was the best. I highly recommend these guys for your next paint job."

Small jobs welcome

I enjoy painting! I look at each project and think if this was my home how would I like it to look. I have been painting for many years. I only accept payment when the job is done and the home owner is happy. I am a middle school teacher and do painting work when not teaching. I am a Christian and do my best to reflect that in my work.

Painting questions, answered by experts

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

You should inspect the area regularly for rust, clean it with a wire brush, repaint it every few years, and apply a protective sealant to prevent corrosion.

Opt for an interior wood stain that is rated for your type of wood. Consider your personal style preferences as well as the overall use of the room when choosing a color. Remember, the color you see at the store may look different on your actual floors once applied. This is why if you have the chance, it’s helpful to test a few options on a scrap piece of wood in the room first. Once you narrow it down, you can test a small patch on an inconspicuous area in the room to see it on the actual floors.

Yes, you can waterproof any wood that has not already been treated. A good way to test this is to splash some water on it. If the water starts to bead up, the wood is treated and most likely doesn’t need another coating.

Typically, a fence requires one to two coats of stain. The exact number can vary depending on the porosity of the wood. For specific guidance, it's best to check the manufacturer's instructions. After applying the first coat and letting it dry completely, you can assess the finish. If it appears patchy, uneven, or you want a more saturated color, a second coat is recommended. An extra coat can also help cover lap marks.
