"Del Rey Paving exhibits predatory sales practices, failure to deliver on promises, inadequate design, errors in construction, failure to abide by warranties, seeking funds out of contract in order to maintain “good faith” relationship, unresponsiveness, and poor service. After a very high-pressure sales pitch (disguised as a design meeting) with all the accoutrements (fancy PowerPoint demonstration, a copy of their impressive surety bond, commitments that they will stand behind us, and a discount that magically expired the same day) and a commitment that the 25-year warrantee covers everything but seismic and trees, Del Rey Paving completed our $72k backyard paver project in September 2023. Over the next few weeks, the pavers began to separate, sag, and crown. Also, the drainage in many areas was toward the house, not away from it. They did come back a couple of times to remove pavers, recompact, and reset. However, when failures continued, they asked us to let the system fail for another year so they would only have to do a major rehabilitation once. When that year elapsed, they were nowhere to be found. Very difficult to get them to come back out. Then, instead of fixing the failed system, they had a soils engineer evaluate. The engineer's soils report described the underlying soils in precisely the way we had described and physically showed them two years prior to the Senior Design Consultant. The report also recommended construction means and methods to properly support various structures, including paving. The report recommendations were vastly different than how Del Rey Paving actually constructed the paving system two years prior. They recently sent an email essentially saying they didn’t want to keep spending money on their failed system. They also claimed the warranties would not cover the repairs. They are attempting to simply walk away, leaving us with an unsafe, embarrassing backyard and a worthless major investment."

"From the moment I met Guy, I sensed he was very different from other contractors with whom I'd worked....and it was true. He wrote down, in detail, everything that was to be done and it was all completed beautifully and in a timely manner. He brought in superb craftsmen and treated them with great respect, something I've found lacking in other contractors with whom I've worked. Whenever I had a question, he responded promptly and visited often to make sure I was pleased with the work. He even built a custom support for an under-mount sink when the one provided by the manufacturer proved flimsy--something that wasn't even included in our contract! I'd developed some trust issues over the last couple years as a result of working with dishonest contractors or those whose work was of a poor quality. Guy renewed my faith. "We hired Joe and his team to handle our primary bathroom remodel and are very pleased only a few days into the work. While our bathroom is on the small side, in order to get what we want, it requires complete demolition and all appropriate re-configuration so it is a substantial project. In our initial consultation, Joe provided great space-efficient ideas and helpful suggestions for where to shop for the items we'd need. He has been extremely communicative and responsive which we greatly appreciate, as that can be hard to come by. So far his team has been quick and efficient and is meeting our expectations in terms of the daily schedule and progress. "Fire victims: Beware of construction company tactics hindering your recovery by delaying project completion & prevent you from obtaining the Certificate of Occupancy that is required to obtain a refinance loan after a fire. Please verify credentials of anyone working on your project is fully licensed with the Contractors State License Board, provide their legal name (not an alias), & operate from a legitimate business address rather than a P.O. box. Avoid contractors who rely on subcontractors, as they may attempt to shift blame. Never take loan or financing advice from them. Insist on written contracts & keep detailed email records of all communications & agreements. Make sure they comply with state & federal laws, especially asbestos. In my case, Joseph Sastiel abandoned my project for the loan to default. Thank GOD I am still in my home to defend myself & my family. Finally, our trial is 12/1/2025. Despite his attorney?s threats to appeal, I look forward to seeking justice."
