"I really wanted to refresh a few things in my house that started looking a little dated and faded, at first I thought not to do it as I was disappointed before with another company I worked with, this time it went extremely smooth, I like it when a company of this nature really completed successfully everything we have agreed on, I finally had a chance to work with a sales consulter that really knows what he was doing and the prices really made sense, I thank you for that, the house looks great, I appreciate it :)"

"We were in a tough position having started a remodel with a contractor that we had to terminate. We had been looking for several months for another contractor. We sought out Lou based on Angie’s list reviews versus a General Contractor. Lou’s operation is as a construction company and relies mostly on his own crew. His crew is great to work with. As other reviews have attested they are prompt, clean, respectful and do a full days work. They clean up at the end of the day and set a high bar that other contractors don’t meet. Lou was coming in on a project that had already started having had drywall up. As part of starting conditions we had to pay for the exploration and redoing several areas. I questioned the necessity of some of the rework, but that was the condition to have Lou take on our project. The electrical from the previous contractor had to be redone, but even with that we did not pass the final electrical inspections and we had more costs at the end. Windows and doors schedules were all very long, (I think it is an industry issue). Lou had promised a quick turn around on 2 windows if we ordered a standard window, but the delivery ended up taking as long as if we had ordered custom. Lou’s communication style is mostly emails. The routine is to speak with the foreman and he presents issues to Lou. We found this inefficient. I had an intense professional schedule during the time frame of our remodel with Lou and his insistence on email impacted many work hours for me. On numerous occasions, a short phone call with an email confirmation could have eliminated back and forth emails. While Lou does this to have a record of communication, he still missed confirmation, and specification that I had spent the time to craft in email. Several caused financial and schedule impacts to our project. Some of our initial designs glossed over how corners or materials would complete. Lou and his crew were great in figuring out these transitions. Lou stands behind his work, which is a plus. He will rework an area that is not correct. However in a few instances if our initial direction had been followed, reworking would have been unnecessary. As other reviews have stated he comes back to fix minor issues that occur after the project has completed. ( Circuit breaker warranty, and cracked tiles, etc). We had several warranty issues with Kohler during the project and Lou did not charge us for the labor to replace the warranty product. We ended up supplying most of the finish material ourselves. He provided the construction materials. While Lou puts an exclusion in his contracts about the match of a transition from existing to new construction you would be hard pressed to pick them out in our completed project. Matching the texture in both stucco and drywall is almost seamless. We had a cutting edge master bath design. Lou’s foreman for our project was detailed and instrumental in the tile layout, and we’re very pleased with the finished product. Lou went to bat for us on several issues we had with the inspector because of the master bath we had designed and ultimately prevailed. Lou supplied several custom cabinets (Master bath and laundry room). We found them to be adequate, and the cabinet maker stands behind them, but in the master bath the cabinets had to be removed and trimmed down 2 inches. They also ended up not being level, therefore the countertop is subsequently not level. In contrast, for our kitchen we had already sourced semi custom cabinets and as far as overall quality, we prefer the cabinets we had sourced for the kitchen. Lou saved our project for which we are very grateful and we wholeheartedly recommend Stone Age. It does come with a price but you’ll be happy with the crew and the results"

"I recently had my kitchen remodeled by The Home Remodeling Guys, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome. From the start, they were professional, communicative, and truly cared about bringing my vision to life. Wow.  Where to start.  How do I describe Fred, the owner, other than.. he's simply the best.
I had verbally comitted with another contractor 6 months before meeting Fred.  The process with the other contractor was taking so many months to even start the project... and have him give me the final bid.... that  I went on Angies List and found Fred.  After meeting with him and receivng a thorough and professional bid within one week, I called my original contractor and cancelled.  I then called Fred, we met, I signed the project, gave him a deposit...... and the rest is history.  A main goal in the remodel was to get more storage space into my small house.
What started as a simple kitchen and bathroom remodel quickly morphed into a "whole-house" project.  Fred was able to take what I had imagined in my mind for years and years and bring it to reality.   My kitchen was a small, closed in little box and the tile on the countertop was popping up like popcorn.  I was in desperate need of help.  For 3 years, I carried around in my purse a sample of the countertop I dreamed of. The entire remodel pretty much revolved around that tile sample and the cabinetry I envisioned.  We tore out the wall between the kitchen and living room, and installed a breakfast bar.  Without adding any square footage, my kitchen now appears twice the size and is a joy to work in.  The custom kitchen cabinets are gorgeous... everything I dreamed of.   I can be in the kitchen and now socialize at the same time.  No more kitchen box!  Everything is bright and airy and open.  Friends who now walk in the front door literally drop their jaws at the transformation.  I come home from work everday and when I open the front door I can't believe this is my new home!
We now have a "spa" bathroom.  The old bathroom had a small tub on one side, a shower in the corner and a typical vanity. Fred drew up several designs on the bathroom and we came to agree on the design we felt would give us the most space and storage.  We now have a combo "spa" tub/shower, built in cabinetry for linens and matching vanity with marble countertops.  The stone floor complements the marble tub/shower enclosure and the wall colors pull everything together.  We feel like we are on vacation!
My daughter and I stayed in oiur home the entire time and shuffled around as the work progressed.  Fred and his crew were courteous and thoughtful of our residency the entire time.  I won't say I enjoyed chewing on dust and grit that first few weeks, but my daughter and I took this whole project on as an adventure.   Being a small house, we have a bath and a quarter.... one tub and shower in the main bathroom... a sink and toilet in the other.   The biggest challenge of the project was about 3 weeks with no shower.  Thank goodness for our gym membership!  Fred did the best he could to hurry up the completion of our main bathroom.
Fred brought many good ideas to the project and was patient and good natured when I kept adding to it (and adding to it, and adding to it!)   I quickly learned that once you did one thing, that generally leads to another and then another.   We also tore out and rebuilt a wall from the other side of the kitchen that led to the dining room and family room.  We tore back a railing from the steps leading down to the family room and enlarged that opening.  Fred had a great idea about the wrought iron railing that separates the dining and family rooms.  He "bronzed" it and added a wood cap and it looks simply amazing.   We replaced the old windows in the family room and replaced the black old sliders with bright, white sliding glass doors.  The look and feel of the entire house is so different and is just beautiful.
When the carpet people installed the carpeting in the family room I was not happy.  They way they laid the carpet, there was a very visible seam that ran the length of the room.  When I called Fred, he came right over, took a look at it and agreed that it was poorly laid.  He had the carpeting people order new carpeting, then when it came in they ripped out the original and re-installed the new carpeting properly.  I was very impressed with the way Fred handled this problem.
Fred also fixed up the deck off the dining room by texturizing the deck surface and building a patio cover... a 100% improvement.
We started on May 1st and the new "hidden" screen door was installed 2 weeks ago.  We are done and I couldn't be happier or more impressed with Fred and his great crew.    It was fun coming home from work every day to see if Fred and his crew left me a "small" package... or a "large" package (like the day the walls came down!).
We started the project with Fred, my contractor.  We finished the project with Fred, my friend.

"We found McCormick home builders through Angie’s list. They were not one of our original contacts, but they contacted us and came out to give us a quote. Matteo was extremely helpful, informative, honest, and gave us reasonable realistic prices, and did not try to inflate the prices or pressure us in anyway. We felt very comfortable with him immediately. We felt like he was a member of the family that we could just talk to and ask questions he was very personable. He gave us his contact number in case we had other questions and he was always available when we needed him for any type of questions or concerns. Mateo‘s team did a beautiful job. They were fast. They were efficient. They cleaned up beautifully. They did a wonderful job. They were very considerate of our time our needs and our neighbors. They were an absolute pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Matteo from McCormick home builders for any home building projects, and we will be calling him again in the future!"

"I honestly can?t say enough good things about working with Unique Home Design & Remodeling. From the initial consultation to the final walkthrough, everything went so smoothly ? which I never expected for a kitchen remodel! Ofir, our project manager, was absolutely fantastic. He was always responsive, super organized, and had a great eye for both functionality and aesthetics. We completely gutted our old kitchen and started from scratch. Ofir walked us through cabinet designs, countertop options, and even helped us tweak the layout to maximize space. His crew was polite, cleaned up after themselves every day, and finished the work on time and on budget ? no surprise costs. We?ve already recommended them to two of our neighbors!"

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

No, you shouldn’t put hot pans on solid surface countertops because they’re only heat-resistant up to 212 degrees Fahrenheit. Play it safe and use trivits to prevent damage.

Formica is a brand of laminate, so all Formica is laminate, but not all laminate is Formica. To identify it, look for a thin, plastic-like surface bonded to a wood or particleboard base. Formica often has branding on the underside. If you don’t see Formica, it could be Wilsonart, another familiar laminate brand. If the countertop is unique, you can visit the Formica site to find a match. Formica is known for creative collaborations that lead to unique design offerings.

The least porous countertop material is engineered quartz. Made from a blend of natural quartz and resins, it is non-porous and highly resistant to stains, scratches, and bacteria. This makes quartz countertops exceptionally low-maintenance and durable, ideal for kitchens and bathrooms where hygiene and easy upkeep are priorities. Other non-porous options include solid surface materials like Corian, which also offer excellent resistance to moisture and stains.

Yes, it is possible to cover old countertops with new ones. Using a countertop overlay to cover your existing countertop is a good way to get a totally new surface without removing your old countertops. This method can be more cost-effective and less time-consuming than a total replacement.

Granite is one of the most popular options for countertops, and most homeowners believe that granite countertops are worth the money. Granite is more affordable than marble and quartz, and provides outstanding durability and longevity. Granite countertops are also desirable because they are entirely unique; unlike some other countertop materials, your granite slab won’t be identical to any others. Granite is porous, which means it has the potential to stain if you don’t clean up spills quickly, but the general durability and relatively low cost make it well worth the investment.
