"Working with Nathan & KN Remodeling was the best decision we made when undertaking our garage conversion job. Nathan understood exactly what we wanted, knew our budget parameters and provided us with a range of options that helped us stay within what we were seeking to spend. We wanted it to be NICE, but didn't need to over-do any of the finishes and spend needlessly on areas that were going to be used in-frequently. The end result was fantastic. The workmanship was of the highest order, the job was executed efficiently and with constant communication and oversight. The whole job was stress free and delivered on time. I can't recommend KN Remodeling highly enough!"

"Gino with Imperial Remodeling was fantastic. He is professional, an excellent communicator, does quality work, and is also just a really nice guy. As a woman, I didn’t want to work with someone who would be dismissive toward me or only want to deal with my husband — and that was never an issue. I’ve heard countless stories of contractors being impossible to reach and not showing up when they said they would. That was never the case with Gino. There wasn’t a single time when Gino or his crew weren’t exactly where they said they would be, exactly when they said they’d be there. He always made himself available to answer any questions we had. He does not cut corners. I stopped by the house when they were installing the hardwood floors, and he was personally going through the boxes, pulling out the best-looking pieces to use in the living areas and saving the pieces with less attractive color variations for closets or under cabinets. That’s how much care he puts into his projects. Any issue or hiccup we encountered, he made it right. He even finished ahead of schedule. Gino takes so much pride in his work and truly wants his customers to be happy. We cannot recommend him enough."

"Golan Remodeling just finished a bathroom remodel for us, and we?re beyond impressed. The project manager was fantastic. He walked us through every step and made sure we were happy with the progress. The tile work and fixtures they installed are beautiful, and the whole bathroom feels like a spa now. The team was professional, clean, and respectful of our home. They are the best in Los Angeles. I?d give them 10 stars if I could!"

"In ten years of buying and selling properties, hiring contractors to improve the homes can be a challenge. If you need a contractor, please save yourself time and grief, Ouri’s « Universal Home Design » is the dream company to work with. I am not kidding. Ouri and his team are the most pleasant, competent, responsive, on time, budget conscious people I have ever worked with. The work is flawless and the result is there to prove it. The addition to my house is gorgeous and makes my home stand out in the whole neighborhood. My family is still in awe with the quality and the integrity of Universal Home Design’s work. Honestly, I couldn’t say enough good things regarding my experience of working with Ouri and his team!"

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

How long it takes to build an in-law suite will vary by type. The time it takes to build an addition will typically be less than for completely new construction. Expect to spend about two months if you convert a basement, attic, or other existing room in your home. New structures can take up to five months, plus up to two months to receive the required permits.

Depending on what the blueprints are for, a qualified draftsperson, contractor, or architect can draw them up. In some cases, including specialty permitting for a build, you may be required to use a licensed architect.

In many cases, a blueprint drawn up by a certified professional is required before a city or municipality approves a permit.

Mediterranean architecture comes from traditional building styles of countries on the Mediterranean Sea mixed with French, Greek, and Moroccan influences. There are three main types of Mediterranean architecture: Italian Renaissance, Spanish Revival, and modern.

Some signature components of Mediterranean architecture include red terra cotta roofs, archways, stucco siding, and metal detailing on windows. These homes often have balconies and outdoor living areas.

Professionals optimize layouts, improve energy efficiency, and ensure structural safety and compliance.

The best way to start designing a house is to know what you want before designing. Making a list of your biggest priorities in a home will help. Designing a house without an idea of what you need or want in a home will lead to many trials and errors that could make it harder to figure out what you need in your design.
