"If you binge watch home improvement shows on TV like I do, the word, "asbestos" can send you and your budget into a cold sweat! William and his team at Laroue Environmental, LLC did a great job thoroughly explaining the asbestos testing process to me as well as my options should the results come back positive. As a first time home owner myself, the process of renovating can be a bit stressful. Working with Laroue Environmental, LLC was anything BUT stressful. If you do sign up for their testing services, you're in good hands! Good luck on your next home renovation project and stay safe out there!"

Customers say: Quick response

"Paul, the owner of the company, was great to work with. He was very flexible and accommodating as far as the schedule for asbestos removal. He finished the job in one day instead of two days. His crew was not very nice but Paul asked that I speak with him and not with them. They seemed to be angry that they only had one day to complete the asbestos removal. However, they did a good job. One caveat regarding all the asbestos removal companies contracts: they all state that whatever damage they do they are not responsible for and anything they take down or take apart during the removal will not be put back or put together."

If something feels off in your home, you want a clear answer fast. Hindsight Environmental tells you exactly what is in your air and what to do next so you can stop guessing and move forward with confidence.\n\nEvery inspection is performed by an owner, not a technician, so nothing gets missed and nothing gets delayed. We use moisture readings and targeted air sampling in the areas that matter.\n\nWe specialize in testing only and do not perform remediation. That means our findings are unbiased and focused on giving you the right answer, not selling you work. Very low priced testing is often tied to companies that also perform the cleanup and use testing to secure that job.\n\nYou get a clear, site specific work plan that a restoration company can follow. Reports are straightforward and typically delivered within 24 to 48 hours so you can take action immediately.

Asbestos Removal questions, answered by experts

You are not really supposed to seal asbestos with paint, but in theory it could work—the caveat being that this is extremely dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. The only real way to seal asbestos is with the professional application of an encapsulating material like epoxy. Due to the negative effect asbestos can have on your home, however, it is usually the best course of action to accept a costly fix and remove the material entirely.

If you have an older electrical system with fraying wires and other signs of damage, removal  may be the best course of action. When asbestos begins to break down, it's more likely to become airborne, increasing the risk of health issues when it's inhaled.

However, if the system is in good condition and doesn't have visible signs of wear or damage, leaving it alone may be the safest course of action. An asbestos abatement and removal professional can help you determine the best way to proceed.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hazardous waste is generally classified into four main categories:

1. Characteristic Wastes: These exhibit at least one of four hazardous traits: ignitability (flammable, like gasoline), corrosivity (can rust or decompose materials, like car batteries), reactivity (unstable and can explode, like aerosol cans), or toxicity (harmful when ingested, like lead-based paint).

2. Listed Wastes: These are specific wastes from manufacturing and industrial processes that the EPA has officially designated as hazardous. They include byproducts from processes that use solvents, pesticides, and other chemicals.

3. Universal Wastes: These are commonly generated hazardous items that are subject to streamlined regulations. Examples include batteries, pesticides, mercury-containing equipment (e.g., bulbs), and some lamps.

4. Mixed Wastes: This category includes waste that contains both hazardous and radioactive components, making it subject to regulation by both the EPA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

if you install new siding on top of old asbestos siding, you may keep the fibers trapped, but it would not necessarily be considered encapsulation. To do so properly requires a professional, who uses a certain type of sealant that needs to be spread over the asbestos in a number of layers in order to trap all the fibers. Although you may be able to buy this sealant yourself, it is highly advised that, once you find asbestos, you call a pro immediately.

Abatement focuses on immediate hazard control while remediation encompasses a comprehensive cleanup and long-term safety strategy. Abatement refers specifically to reducing or eliminating the immediate hazard by removing or encapsulating it. It’s a targeted approach aimed solely at controlling asbestos risks. Remediation is a broader term that involves the entire process of addressing contamination to restore a safe environment. Remediation can include abatement, decontamination, air quality testing, and post-cleanup monitoring.
