"These guys are great. We were able to schedule the cleaning for the day after I received the estimate, and Chris and Jonathan did a spectacular job of removing a couple of decades worth of moss and making our solar panels look like new. The roof has a new lease on life. Couldn't be happier!"

"They were very professional and thorough. I like that the cleaner also pointed out and cleaned areas that I did not think of. They asked questions if they needed help finding anything and were very careful and methodical."

"Aaron had cleaned my wood burning insert and fireplace/chimney and cap two years ago.  He did such a good job, I wanted him to return.  Based on the amount of wood I was burning, he recommended it be cleaned every two years.  Aaron is very knowledgeable.  I have a 500 pound wood burning insert that is quite old.  He brought the proper equipment and was able to remove the stove without a problem.  He inspected and cleaned the insert,  fireplace and chimney and left my home without a trace of chimney dust.  He also removed the chimney cap and cleaned it.  He noted that the top of the chimney stack was starting to wear a little and he was able to seal it at the same visit.  He was in and out in less than an hour.  I will definitely use A1 Chimney and will request Aaron for my next chimney cleaning.

"Complete confidence in gutter cleaning and assurance the downspouts are all clear and draining properly. I was a little skeptical about having someone on my tile roof and had originally contracted with Sparkling Window & Gutter Cleaning to clean my gutters using a ladder from off the roof. After meeting with the technician (Rafael) and discussing his past experiences working on a tile roof, I was convinced that he could do the job properly and better working on the roof in lieu of the ladder. I was not disappointed! I scheduled next yearâ s cleaning for the same day next December."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Both aluminum and composite decking materials are environmentally friendly, with aluminum decking coming in as the most eco-friendly option.

Though composite decking helps remove plastics from landfills, recycles wood, and lasts longer than traditional wood decks, it’s not recyclable and only lasts for 25 to 30 years on average. Aluminum can last well over 30 years and is almost always recyclable.

Yes, but ensuring the deck has a solid foundation with adequate footings is critical before building, as the weight of a sunroom will put significant pressure on the structure below. Even if your deck is properly constructed, it may not be able to handle the extra weight. While some basic, lightweight, prefabricated sunrooms can sit on a deck with a strong existing foundation without additional supports, in many cases, the foundation and joists will need reinforcement. It is always best to have a structural engineer perform an inspection to evaluate the deck's quality and structural integrity. A professional can help you decide if reinforcement is sufficient or if it's better to tear down the deck and start over.

The proper and most comfortable height for a deck stair riser, also called a step, is between four and seven inches. A height of seven inches is often considered ideal for a strain-free step that minimizes the risk of trips and falls. While it is possible to have risers up to 12 inches, this height can be challenging for children, pets, or individuals with mobility issues. For optimal safety and comfort, pair a seven-inch riser with a tread depth (or run) of at least 10 to 12 inches. Always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements that differ from these general recommendations.

Covering your deck with a breathable tarp can protect it from snow, ice, and cold winter temperatures. This is a good winterizing solution if you don’t plan to use your deck at all during the colder months. However, it might be best to skip the tarp if you’ll still be walking on your deck or using it in a limited capacity.

The best time to paint your deck is when temperatures are neither too cold (below 60 degrees) nor too hot (above 85 degrees). Always paint your deck when there’s no risk of rain. For fast-drying paint like acrylic or latex, ensure your deck can dry for at least four hours. Oil-based paints take longer to dry and may require 48 hours to completely cure.
