"This is the second time my wife and I have used Clark Concepts. This time we had our basement bathroom designed and completed by Joseph and his crew. I travel in my job and was unable to be at home during construction but with Joseph's communication and work performance we were able to come home to a beautifully crafted bathroom and to top it off all before the holidays!!! GREAT job guys."

"Amanda was really very good!  At first I was very skeptical, thinking why did I pay money to just speak with someone on the phone about my kitchen remodel project... but after just a few minutes of her addressing some of the issues/questions I emailed to her earlier, I knew it was worth it.  It was very clear that she knew her business and she gave me several ideas that I had not even thought about.  I told her that I would definitely recommend her to friends and I will very likely use her again myself for my next home project!

"Setting up the appointment with Home Solutionz for the initial appointment was super easy and they were even able to get me in next day which was very helpful being that I was on a tight schedule. Joe our consultant was friendly and very helpful. Home Solutionz brings the flooring to your house so you can see how it looks with your furniture and paint colors which was very helpful. It was so easy to select my flooring because they had a website that mapped the flooring into my room. When at my house I had them give me estimates on my tile and carpet. They offered installation 2 days later and the installation process was so easy and fast. They moved and replaced all the old flooring and furniture in our rooms. Can’t beat their lifetime warranty. My experience all the way around was outstanding. I would highly recommend Home Solutionz for flooring to my friends and family. Next on my list of projects is my countertops and I can’t wait to have my budget in order to have Home Solutionz come back!"

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Installing a bathroom in a basement isn’t a project for most homeowners. Many parts—plumbing, electricity, and carpentry—go into this project, each requiring expert-level knowledge and tools. One miscalculation can lead to very expensive repairs. Plus, some homeowner’s insurance might not pay for damages caused by a homeowner DIYing this project. You can protect yourself by allowing the pros to complete this job for you.

Roughing in and connecting utilities are the hardest parts of finishing a basement, and they’re the parts we typically don’t recommend doing as a DIY project. Unfortunately, your finishing timeline can be extended by weeks while you wait for contractors and inspectors to install electrical wiring, plumbing lines, and heating/cooling equipment and carry out inspections.

Basements with persistent moisture problems or flooding shouldn’t be finished until the moisture issues have been fixed. In addition, if your foundation is cracked, you have unmitigated radon levels, or you have asbestos or lead pipes, remediate the underlying problem before finishing your basement. Turning a basement into living space before fixing these issues can lead to serious health risks or structural damage.

Envision the type of bar experience you'd like to create for your guests. For example:

  • Does your basement have enough finished space for bar stools or seating?

  • What type of additional lighting would set the tone for the room?

  • Are there basement windows or an HVAC system?

  • Do you need new plumbing in your basement for a proper wet bar?

  • Could you be happy with a built-in wall cabinet bar rather than a full-scale wet bar?

Whether it’s more affordable to gut a house than build a new one depends on the markets where you'd be buying and selling. However, it’s usually less expensive to renovate a home than to build new construction.

Most homeowners pay between $100,000 and $200,000 for demolition and remodeling costs, whereas the average cost to build a new home is between $139,000 and $531,300.
