For 20 years we have provided professional carpentry, painting and staining small projects, new and remodel sheds, decks, doors, windows, flooring demolition and clean up, as well as small appliance installation, hot tub removal, and helping to pack boxes or reorganize storage units. "We hired Glowing Seasons to install an irrigation system. After installation, the system did not operate correctly. When it ran, the rear zones activated, but the front zone did not function properly, and we found water inside the valve box. We contacted the company to report these issues. While the installer did return once, the problems were not resolved, and communication later focused on a disputed balance rather than correcting the system. There were also multiple scheduled days when the arrival time was 9:00 a.m., but the installer did not arrive until the afternoon (around 1:00 p.m.), and only after I followed up to ask whether he was still coming that day. These delays pushed back other scheduled work, including a concrete pour, by approximately one week. Ultimately, we did not feel comfortable having further work performed and decided not to proceed. Based on our experience, we were disappointed with the outcome and how the situation was handled."

His communication was fantastic, and they both started and finished the job much sooner than originally expected. Most of our potted plants are covered for the winter, and we will be excited to uncover them in the spring in their beautiful new environment. We love our backyard design now and are looking forward to working with Landscape Magic in the future on our front yard also."

If the tree is very small—under 4 or 5 inches in diameter—and you’re experienced handling a chainsaw, you may be able to cut down the tree on your own, provided there’s plenty of room for it to fall. 

However, felling even small trees can be dangerous, and it’s always advisable to have a spotter on hand. This will help make sure the tree doesn’t fall the wrong way or that branches aren’t about to fall on you while you’re working.

It depends on whether easiest means fastest or least challenging. If you have limited tools or experience, hollowing with a chisel and hammer is the easiest, although it won’t be the fastest approach. Using a chainsaw is much faster, but it comes with more safety risks, especially if you aren’t used to wielding one.

Usually, trees cannot grow back after their stump has been ground, but some very hearty types of trees can. For example, if you have a black locust or Redford pear, the grinding will need to go deep to prevent them from growing back. Ask your tree service or stump removal expert whether your tree can resprout after its stump is ground down.

The most common alternative is burning the stump first, then dealing with the cinders and ashes. As you can imagine, this option creates fire hazards, especially since roots can burn underground, hidden, for long afterward. That’s why many states and cities have outlawed the use of stump burning entirely. We do not recommend this option as a viable alternative unless you get a permit from the local fire department and practice all safe burning procedures.

Others prefer a more long-term DIY approach of degrading the stump with home mixtures like Epsom salt and vinegar injected directly into it. This may help the stump decay faster, allowing homeowners to dig it out themselves, but it’s still a lengthy process. It usually takes months for a stump to start falling apart with such treatments, and in the meantime, it can be vulnerable to rot, insects, and other problems.

Land-clearing projects often take professionals one to two days to complete, but your timeframe can get much longer—sometimes up to a week or more—if you need your pros to clear a large section of land, grind down multiple large trees below the ground, or clear especially dense or heavy materials, like landscaping boulders and brush. A land-clearing expert will usually give you an accurate timeline along with your quote to help you better plan your project.
