Small jobs welcome

"Jim Lloyd is knowledgeable and skilled in all areas of home remodeling. I hired him for a second job, and will re-hire him anytime. Highly recommend him. My only complaint is the Angi/HomeAdvisor app, which didn't work. Calls to Angi are answered in English, but then you are transferred to Home Advisor in a foreign country with incomprehensible english. The only thing they can say clearly is "I can't help you". Do a work around with the contractor and stay away from the app."

Stucco questions, answered by experts

A standard drill will work just fine if you’re drilling small holes, and only a few of them. But anything with a diameter larger than 3/8 inch is best done with a hammer drill, since it is stronger, faster, and also makes your drill bits last longer. While you don’t absolutely need a hammer drill for stucco, it is a worthy investment if you think you might drill more holes down the road.

Masonry screws are the best option to be used on stucco. They’re thicker and made to penetrate harder surfaces like concrete and cinder blocks. Fluted masonry screws work the best because they create a stronger grasp thanks to the lines on their shafts. If you’re working on exterior stucco, use galvanized screws to prevent corrosion.

The cost to replace the chimney crown or top is about $1,550 on average. The range varies widely depending on the size of the chimney, the materials used, accessibility, and the extent of the damage. If you suspect a problem with your chimney top, call a professional masonry contractor for an inspection.

Stucco applied over brick can last 30 to 50 years or more when correctly applied and properly maintained. Stucco’s lifespan can be shortened by improper application, incorrectly mixed material, lack of preparation before application, and lack of maintenance. To get the most life out of your stucco siding, keep up with maintenance and repair any damage as soon as you discover it.

The average cost of stucco siding is $5,400, ranging from $2,200 to $8,840. Stucco is worth the investment, provided you have the work done by a professional. Not only is stucco an attractive and durable siding material that boosts your home’s curb appeal, but it’s also more energy-efficient than most other siding options, it’s fire-resistant, water-resistant, and more affordable to repair down the road.
