"This was my first time using this company. Due to a recent family loss, my home is still in the process of being organized, so I only had the open, accessible areas of the carpet cleaned. They did an exceptional job—quick, professional, and very thorough. They even set up fans afterward, which helped the carpet dry much faster. I was very impressed with the service and will definitely use them again."

"The carpet was installed fine. The installers called me two hours before arrival to let me know their arrival time and they should up when they said they would. It took them two hours to do three bedrooms and two closets. The carpet looks fine. My issue is with the manners and the cleanliness of the installers. One, they used my bathroom without asking. On top of that, they didn t lift the toilet seat and peed all over it. Then, they didn t bother flushing the toilet. I didn t even know they used the toilet till after my wife tried to use that toilet later in the afternoon and noticed the pee everywhere. Disgusting! Second, they left plastic wrap all over my front yard and in the street. Third, the installer showed up at my front with a cigarette in his mouth. His cigarette smoke went right into my house. Unacceptable! I have tried calling customer service a few times now and no one answered the phone. Won t hire again."

"Chris and his team completely transformed our old carpeted floors into beautiful LVP floors! The entire process was fast, smooth, and stress-free. Chris was friendly, professional, and incredibly efficient from start to finish. On top of that, the pricing was very reasonable for the quality of work we received. We couldn’t be happier with the results—highly recommend! Pictures included to show the amazing transformation!"

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

When it comes to flooring installers, licensing laws vary from state to state. Even if your state doesn’t require your flooring installer to have a license, your municipality or city might, so it’s a good idea to check with your town before getting started. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines.

Hiring an unlicensed flooring installer could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

Installing carpet padding is mostly a matter of measuring the room and cutting the carpet pad to size with a utility knife. You can save some money on carpet installation costs by doing it yourself. Before installing the carpet padding, you should install the tack strips around the room’s perimeter and prepare the subfloor by cleaning and making any necessary repairs. Then, unroll the carpet pad and cut sections as needed. Staple the carpet pad to the subfloor along the edges, leaving the tack strips exposed.

Taking carpet off stairs is an easy but multi-step process you can usually do yourself. If you have the right tools, time, and oomph to finish the job, removing carpet from stairs can be an easy-to-medium difficulty task, depending on your stairs, the type of carpet installed, and how willing you are to get your hands dirty. It’s important to review the process, gather the right tools before you begin, and follow a tutorial or directions while you work.

While it is possible to install carpet yourself, it is a challenging DIY project that requires precise measurement, proper cutting skills, and knowledge of correct installation techniques. The process involves multiple steps, including removing old flooring, installing underlayment and tack strips, and stretching the carpet to prevent wrinkles, which can take several days to complete.

Before starting, consider these factors:

  • Warranty: Many manufacturers' warranties are voided if the carpet is not installed by a professional.

  • Tools: You will need to buy or rent specialized equipment like a knee kicker, carpet stretcher, and seam roller.

  • Complexity: DIY installation is most suitable for simple, straightforward rooms. Projects involving stairs or floor vents are significantly more difficult.

  • Cost: While you can save on labor, the cost of tools plus the risk of expensive mistakes—which may require re-installation—can make hiring a professional more cost-effective in the long run.

Given the potential for errors, voided warranties, and the need for special tools, hiring a local carpet installer is often recommended to ensure the job is done correctly and safely.

New carpet installation offers warmth, comfort, and aesthetic appeal. It can improve indoor air quality by trapping dust particles and provides a sound-dampening effect, which is beneficial for creating quiet environments.
