Yes, if you’re replacing a door slab, it must be the exact size of your existing door. If your new door is too small, you’ll need to purchase a new door to fit or hire a handyperson to make your frame smaller. Or if it's too big, you’ll need to return it or shave it down to fit.

To move a couch through a narrow doorway, first measure the couch and the doorway to ensure it will fit. For a close fit, you can create more space by removing the interior door; tap out the hinge pins with a nail and shift the door sideways to remove it from its hinges. You may need to turn the couch on its side or move it in separate pieces, if possible. Using furniture sliders can also help you slide the couch through the doorway.

While both sides of a front door should get painted for aesthetic reasons, you don’t have to do each side at the same time. As a matter of fact, you’ll probably want a different paint type and color for the interior section of the door than the exterior side. Check the package of your bifold door. The width shown is half an inch larger than the bifold set. This allows at least 1/4 inch between the side jamb and pivot. When installing the top track, saw the track down to leave approximately 1/6 inch on each end. This will ensure your bifold door folds and unfolds smoothly without getting stuck in the frame.
