"Hired for concrete slab and walkway. Took concrete truck through my yard Contractor was polite and friendly, but service was not up to par. Had concrete truck drive through my yard the day after a downpour and it dug a trail all the way around my house. Contractor stated that they were coming back with a truckload of dirt to fix the ruts. He returned with a "bobcat" and attempted to smooth out ruts, but never brought any dirt. They left concrete overflow around my slab and walkway, stakes embedded in concrete and broken off above ground level. I will not consider this contractor for future projects as I was left to clean up concrete overflow and bring in a truckload of dirt to spread around my concrete pad to hide concrete that spilled over forms. "

"I contacted Foundation Pro for an inspection of my foundation and moisture in the crawl space. Brent Stroud inspected the foundation and crawl space, determined that the foundation was fine but that there was standing water under the house. The moisture barrier installed several years ago was not doing its job nor were the wooden shims placed in the pier supports under the house. Brent explained that wooden shims could change over time and recommended that they be replaced with metal ones which we did. The moisture barrier that Foundation Pro installed is far superior to what was removed and the addition of a sump pump and dehumidifier has removed moisture from the crawl space. Mr. Stroud recommended several ways to reduce moisture around the house including installation of gutters a service that they do not provide or I would have had them install gutters. Everything was very professionally done at a reasonable cost and I would not hesitate to hire Foundation Pro again."

Deck pier blocks are one alternative to traditional deck footings. Unlike poured concrete and buried post footings, deck blocks don’t require digging or pouring. They’re best for small or low-to-the-ground decks. Keep in mind, though, that not all areas allow the use of deck pier blocks, so consult your local building codes before choosing them for your deck.

In many cases, you will need a building permit for your patio, but it depends on the type of patio. Generally speaking, any improvements to your land considered “permanent” will require a permit. Since a concrete patio is a permanent foundation, you will need a permit. On the other hand, a paver patio or flagstone patio usually sits over gravel and sand, are considered “temporary” improvements, and rarely require permits. To be safe, you should always ask your building department or your patio company if a permit will be necessary.

A concrete patio lasts an average of 30 years, but the length of life you’ll get from yours depends largely on the climate. In harsh conditions, including excessive rainfall and snowfall, a concrete patio may only last for 15 years. In a moderate climate and with non-expansive, supportive soil below, a concrete patio could last for up to 50 years.

You don't technically need rebar for a concrete patio, but it's a good idea to install it, especially if your patio will support any heavy items. All concrete is susceptible to cracking, and rebar keeps cracks in check while maintaining a smooth, level surface. Without rebar, cracks will likely widen and cause the concrete to become uneven, compromising its structural integrity.
