Customers say: True professional

"I was referred to JT by a neighbor who has worked with him for over 15 years, and I’m glad I took the recommendation. His pricing is fair, he’s quick to respond to questions, and he kept me fully informed throughout the entire process—from progress updates to materials being used. JT and his crew replaced an old, rotting deck with Trex, rebuilt one fence, and repaired another that didn’t require a full replacement. Most importantly, his crew shows up on time and completes the work efficiently—and does it well. That kind of reliability is hard to find. I’ll definitely be using JT again for future projects. Highly recommend!"

"Fast, fair price, flexible. By flexible, I mean I asked him to build a couple of gates for the top level of our deck that would be toddler proof. He came up with really great solutions with hidden locks that even the craftiest of toddlers would not be able to figure out. I’m very happy with the work done and look forward to working with him again soon"

"He did an awesome job. Took down the old deck and replaced all new boards on top. He only had to replace a couple underneath the deck. I would hire him again and would recommend him to anybody. He is reasonable with his pricing."

"Braden was professional, explained exactly what he would do on my project. He was diligent in contacting me regarding the paint color I requested and applied 2 coats. He repaired the support beams as well as replacing the boards that were in need of replacing on top of the deck and lattice work at the base. I will recommend him & request Mr. Melton to do future jobs."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

How long it takes to install composite decking depends on the size of the decking material, the skills of the person installing the deck, the number of people helping, and how much prep work needs to be done before you can begin. Generally speaking, it takes anywhere from a few days to several weeks to build a composite deck.

Composite decking boards aren't your only options for building a deck. There are several other types of materials for decks, including wood and aluminum decking. Wood decking comes in many different wood species, offering natural beauty and classy timelessness to your yard. Aluminum is a lightweight, water-resistant, and low-maintenance material that is also non-slip.

You can nail or screw composite decking, but 3-inch decking screws are the better fastener choice. Unlike nails, decking screws won’t back out of the composite material over time. There’s also little danger of splitting composite material when driving screws, so you don’t need to pre-drill holes unless otherwise recommended by your decking manufacturer.

For the best results, stay off of your deck for at least 48 hours after sealing it. Giving the sealant at least two full days to cure ensures it can fully penetrate the wood, giving you the most protection from sun and weather damage later on. Walking on the deck too soon can prevent it from properly curing and cause your deck to weather prematurely.

The proper height for a stair riser or deck step is between four and seven inches, with seven inches often considered the most comfortable. Building your stairs to this height ensures a strain-free step position and minimizes the risk of trip and fall injuries. For optimal safety and comfort, especially on deck stairs, a rise of around seven inches should be paired with a tread depth (or run) of at least 10 to 12 inches. While it is possible to design stairs with risers up to 12 inches, this height can be challenging for children, pets, or individuals with mobility issues. Always check with your local building codes, as they may mandate specific dimensions that differ from these general recommendations.
