"The 2 individuals were professional starting with their initial assessment visit. Their projections that referenced necessary materials and time requirements were amazingly accurate which was important to me as I truly wanted the project to be completed in a timely fashion. They accomplished that as promised. They arrived early each day and worked late on most instances. Most important and pleasing for me was their craftmanship. They displayed a total knowledge of my requirements for perfect mitered cuts on each board as EVERY board on my deck consists of 45 degree mitered cuts. The gentlemrn are the eal deal. They are on my forever list. I am very satisfied."

"Had these guys build a patio, clean my flower beds and yard, put up gutters, take down a small tree, clean out brush, repair a fence, along with some basic lawn care. They were friendly, courteous, and were here when they said they would be here. They do excellent work and will hire them again for future projects."

"Braden was professional, explained exactly what he would do on my project. He was diligent in contacting me regarding the paint color I requested and applied 2 coats. He repaired the support beams as well as replacing the boards that were in need of replacing on top of the deck and lattice work at the base. I will recommend him & request Mr. Melton to do future jobs."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Rotting wood, loose railings, or unstable stairs may indicate a need for expertise.

Yes. Freestanding or floating decks are exactly what the name implies—structures with their own support beams. You can build a deck yourself and place it next to a house for the illusion of a connected deck without the hassle. Or you can construct it in a separate part of your yard for a dedicated outdoor entertainment space. For the purpose of removing a freestanding deck, the steps are the same as an attached deck, but you don’t have to cut the deck away from the home.

The life expectancy of deck boards varies widely based on the material, climate, and maintenance. Untreated wood boards typically last 10 to 30 years with proper care, while pressure-treated boards can last up to 50 years. Hardwoods generally outlast softwoods. Composite boards also tend to last longer than natural wood. Environmental factors like arid or humid climates can shorten a deck's lifespan. To extend the life of wood decking, it's important to consistently clean and seal it to protect against moisture, UV light, and insects.

Yes, you can build a deck over your outdoor HVAC unit, but you need to leave at least 5 feet of vertical clearance above the unit. If you don’t want your deck to be that high off the ground, you could build a floating deck in another part of your yard—again, as long as you leave at least 4 feet of horizontal space between the deck and your AC unit.

While you can use various materials like sand or even just soil, gravel is widely considered the best option to put under a deck. It provides excellent drainage and is resistant to water, fire, and pests. Gravel also helps anchor the soil to prevent erosion during heavy rain and acts as a built-in weed blocker, reducing regular upkeep. Furthermore, it is simple to spread, available in various textures and tones, and adds a polished look that complements any deck design.
