"I had a large tree branch that was broken and resting on another tree branch in a precarious position. After speaking with Jason of Simpli Property Preservation and a visual review we agreed on terms. I decided to extend the scope of work to include more trees. The group he had showed up timely over the next few days and did excellent work. They followed through with everything we discussed and I would highly recommend them for your next tree removal project."

"OMG! Coming into a new community you normally get taken advantage of. Not the case with K and R. They went beyond their call of duty with the service they provided me. I am on a fixed income... Ryan and his wife saw a need ... my trees ! They could have possibly fallen on somebody, for safety to the new neighborhood, they cut my trees at a discounted rate because I am on a fixed income. Now if you are healthy and making money ... pay full price and know that your children will be safe in any neighborhood that Ryan cuts trees in."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Trees naturally want to grow upward, so one may straighten all by itself, though this only comes into play when a tree is leaning just a small amount. For trees growing into an awkward position or those leaning heavily in one direction, the above steps are necessary to ensure the tree gets back on the right path. This also holds true for trees planted in a spot with unstable soil.

A few signs a tree may be dead is if the leaves are dead and there are no signs of new blooms. You can also perform a scratch test on some of the branches to check the condition of the cambium layer beneath the bark.

If it is green, it is still alive, but if several are dry, brittle, and brown, the tree may be dying or dead. Always consult an arborist before assuming your tree is dead because you may be able to save it.

Generally, you’ll want to prune back the trunk by 1 to 2 feet each year to promote bushy growth. Doing so concentrates vegetative buds closer to the bottom of the tree, where you can easily harvest fruit. For side shoots that are a year old, leave at least six leaves.

Never remove more than 30% of a tree’s foliage during pruning—even if your tree is really overgrown. Removing this much foliage at a time could kill your tree.

Hiring an arborist costs around $900 on average, with prices ranging from $250 to $2,500 or more. Some arborists charge an hourly rate, typically between $100 and $350 per hour. The final cost depends on several factors, including the type of work, the number of trees, accessibility, and whether you hire an independent arborist or a larger tree service company. When hiring, you should also consider their experience and insurance coverage.

Below are some estimated costs for common arborist jobs:

  • Small tree removal: $300 to $500

  • Large tree removal: $500 to $2,000 or more

  • Tree health assessment: $150

  • Trimming a small tree: $75 to $200

  • Trimming a large tree: $150 to $400

  • Dealing with invasive species: $150 to $1,000 or more

You may need permission to take a tree down. Check with your local ordinances about rules regarding tree removal and to gain any necessary permits. Check with your local ordinances or the fire department if you plan to burn the stump. Make sure you have all the steps in place before removing the tree, or contact a local tree removal service.
